I was listening to a sports gambling oriented show on the Fox Sports Radio network. The main presenter claimed just like Enron can be sued for violating fiduciary duty to stock holders, sports leagues should be sued by sports gamblers for incompetence. I had to turn the dial when I heard what has to be one of the most bone headed comment about the refs blowing the call.

Offending referee used to play for the Rams in 1981 and lives there now.

They forgot the so called Brady rule that significantly loosened up the standards of pass interference or roughing and passer calls. This came about very early in Brady’ career when coaches and manages started paying bounties for taking out high value players. Another example would be certain rule changes for crack backbblocking, Recent statists show that despite being dubbed the Brady rule that it doesnt seem to favor Brady more than any other QB than any other other QB.

“If any lawsuit is allowed to go forward, it’s the end of professional sports. Hell might even be the end of college sports.”

Personally, I’d say that that would be a good thing1 But realistically, season ticket holders do not have “standing” as I see it.

“... the Commissioner deems so extraordinarily unfair or OUTSIDE THE ACCEPTED TACTICS ENCOUNTERED IN PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL...”

I submit that NOTHING is outside the accepted tactics “encountered” in “professional” football!

My BIL mentioned the other day that the season tickets for LA were now in the high 5 figures. Up from $1500 for the same 4 seats some 20 (?) years ago. A winning team and a Superbowl justifies the team raising prices and in turn makes season tickets more valuable to those holding them if the team allows fan-to-fan resell. So there is ‘economic harm’ if you look at it that way but I have no clue if permitted fan-to-fan resell is allowed by the Saints.

My son’s baseball coach used to tell the boys that there will always be bad calls. So, try to get a big enough lead that a bad call doesn’t decide a game.

It’s almost like they wanted the Rams to win. How could you possibly miss something that egregious ? They wanted to stop that drive. Like someone on this thread said, there is a lot of money involved.

Well, there is a bit of solace that the N.O. Saints can be granted, by...

Asking the NFL to put an asterisk next to the title, “*Superbowl Champions”, if the Rams end up winning the game.

With the asterisk explained below the title, saying “*Should have been ‘N.O. Saints’”.

I also remember watching a Brewer game where a challenge was called on a homerun. The ball clearly struck above the yellow line on the outfield wall and it was overturned.

Too bad I'm not in charge. I'd make it a real simple call - over the fence is a home run. If the ball bounces back into the field, play it! Putting a 'home run above here' line on a wall is just plain stupid...

Baseball, Football, Basketball, and whatever sport is refereed, bad calls will be made. It is part of the game. This is a game after all, and things just don’t always go your way. Life is not always fair.

Yes, but 'bad calls' and 'calls made to tilt the game' are hugely different creatures. One is part of the game. The other could be considered fraud. It's like horse racing: a bad call is the jockey dropping his go-faster stick. Cheating is doping the other guy's horse.

How do you tell the difference?
