And just how would we split up?

It's an interesting question. The two opposing sides aren't separated geographically.

As the situation deteriorates to the point where the two sides are on the verge of spilling blood, I'd expect people to flee to their respective strongholds. Libs living in majority red districts will begin relocating to blue areas, and conservatives living in blue districts will do likewise.

That alone, may help to ease tensions for a bit. Dunno, but the long range prospects are increasingly dim. It appears that our country is headed for some kind of major political realignment.

No thanks.
The Left will not be satisfied no matter how much one-sided compromise we made, they want total domination and us complete surrender to them.

True.
The Alinksy and other leftist playbooks say take incremental steps and then keep them and move to next steps.

GOP gave in early on “in cases of rape or incest” for abortion

and allowed some rights to LGBT until Court ruled they get everything including marriage and spouse insurance and entitlement benefits regardless of several states that had earlier successfully passed petition legislation to make the law one man one woman marriage,

and allowed maybe just a little socialized medicine if the poor really need it badly, and many more.

Now it looks like the American people fully expect the federal government to take care of all health care and surgical needs of all people (including millions of non citizens).

I remember a People Magazine picture years ago of a gang member in a hospital bed, smirking, after his latest violent fight. Taxpayers fully paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for a long list of surgical procedures to repair his multiple gunshot and knife slash wounds. He vowed to get back out and fight the enemies on the street again.

Just for thought:
1. The economic conditions at the onset of both the CW I and US Revolutionary War were not bleak, other than the threat of increased taxation and confiscation by controlling powers, along with unacceptable moral issues.
2. During both of those wars, there was an active press on both sides, goading and polarizing the peoples thoughts.
3. Strong vocal leaders emerged.
4. Citizens had principals they were willing to die for.
5. In Central and South America when out of control leftist threatened the state or took control, authoritarian measures were enacted and hit squads were formed. Compromise was impossible.

I tend to agree that a civil war is very possible.

I am curious to hear what actual fighting veterans think about this.

Balkanization of America is not the answer anymore than it was when the slave states formed the Conferacy. We are headed to a civil war though not one of great armies clashing on battle fields. Our coming civil war will first be a Cold War as we are seeing now. However, a triggering event, like the death of Justice Ginsberg, will escalate things to violence in the streets, acts of political terrorism and even political assassinations. The leftists will get support including weapons from foreign sources seeking to overthrow our country and establish a socialist communist state. There will pitched battles in the streets and I would expect intervention by the US military. I could even see involvement by foreign troops in the form of UN “peace keepers” invited by Obama who will try to create a shadow government to reinstate himself as president. The war will be lengthy, bloody and as devisive as the last civil war. The union and the Constitution will survive.

I’ve been watching Man in the High Castle on Amazon Prime. It’s an alternate history series based on the Axis winning WW2.

It reminds me of what could happen here if the left prevails.

How happy will WE be when the next Dem POTUS invokes a “State of Emergency” to seize the nation’s privately owned guns when some a-hole shoots up a school on their watch?

Oddly enough, that would be a good thing, because it would kick off Revolution II, which FedGov would lose.

If New England becomes a separate sovereign country how will they meddle in my business?

The division problems are more than just illegal immigration.

At the 2004 Dem convention, 2 speeches were on the topic of two Americas. Each took an almost opposite stand to the other. One was from VP candidate John Edwards and the other was from Senator Barack Obama.

Dougherty seems to think just splitting the country will be the solution. How ludicrous! The divide is more expansive than states’ issues.

It would be easy to divide N-S or E-W, but the issues would still remain. It would be almost impossible to divide between Liberals and Conservatives, Left v Right, Fly-over v Urban.

Thus, a physical divide should force the relocation of millions. Those who do not want to be in the US of Liberal would have to move out. And vice versa. Would they? Most would not.

So, if the states do split, who is going to subsidize the Liberal states and their massive taxes? They would expect the Conservative states to continue doing that.

About the only spit up would be for every state to become its down little nation and disband the FED altogether. That would eventually open them up for conquest and invasion from stronger nations. Thus, every state would have to build a wall around itself for protection from the outside.

Dougherty has not really thought out his recommendation.

They will MAKE it your problem. It’s what they do.

Is this again for possible cranial penetration "If New England( and applies to CA) becomes a separate sovereign country by seceding from the USA, then just how will they meddle in my business in Virginia?"

The average man on the street does not possess the technology the Federal government does. The Deep State is already using insidious ways to kill us off and we don’t even know it.

We have actually had two civil wars; the Revolutionary War was the first with the winners in the mainland and the losers forced into Canada. But the losers have been eeking their way into the mainland ever since.

Which state is the greatest threat to the republic. I think that most people would say CA. The CA pols have connections with the Chicoms and Hollywood and the tech companies have been heavily infiltrated by the Chicoms too. They are a corrupt one party state and their elections system is fraudulent and designed to favor Dems and communists. There is a well organized Calexit movement.

If we are going to have a hot civil war, it should start in CA. The US government probably has justification to come in and arrest CA pols for treason, ie working with Chicoms for secession. CA probably does need to be occupied and under a military government until things can be corrected. That should provide an example for the northeastern states

The same way Guatemalan “refugees” are “our” problem.

The same way the descendants of muslims who evacuated Israel to clear the battlefield for their co-religionists to murder every man woman and child they found in Israel are now “Israel’s problem”.

The same way Communist Cuba was “our” problem.

The same way your neighbor’s poorly fenced, abused, and attack trained pitbulls aren’t “your” problem.

The same way cancer in your liver isn’t “your” problem, it’s “your liver’s” problem.

YMMV...
