Brexit: Military reservists on standby in event of no deal

Reserve military officers could be called up for a year of service as part of government plans for a no-deal Brexit.

It comes after the defence secretary said 3,500 troops were "held at readiness" to help if the UK crashes out of the EU.

The official call-up order was made in a ministerial statement on Thursday.

Labour, which is calling for a no-deal to be ruled out, said the move showed the prospect was a "serious threat".

Reservists, who have military training but also hold civilian jobs, will make up one in ten of the troops prepared to be deployed before the scheduled Brexit date of 29 March.

Under the Reserve Forces Act, Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson can call on the officers to be sent "anywhere in the world" if it is "necessary or desirable".

The act says this can be done "for the alleviation of distress or the preservation of life or property in time of disaster or apprehended disaster".

The French government started working on its contingency plan in the event that the UK leaves the EU without a deal on March 29, 2019.

The plan includes five emergency laws to be pushed through within the next three weeks.

... “Under these conditions, our responsibility is to make sure that our country is ready, that the interests of our citizens are preserved and defended,” he said.

Under-Secretary Bernd Krösser: “We hope that all British fellow-citizens who see Hamburg as their home will be able to remain here. I should be very happy to see as many Hamburgians with British roots as possible taking German nationality.”

Following the initial campaign on the offer of nationality, around 1300 British citizens recently received a personal letter from the First Mayor notifying them of the opportunities for taking German nationality. Since the 2016 Brexit referendum, more than 800 British people have done so.

... some patients are stockpiling drugs, against official guidance. They said they were doing so by ordering drugs from abroad, and by asking their GPs for emergency prescriptions. One diabetic patient has been stockpiling insulin for four months, ordering twice the amount he needs for each of his drugs from the pharmacist.

In a tenderly written missive to Britons, more than two dozen leading figures in Germany — including Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, the favorite to become the country’s next chancellor — described their admiration for many things British, including its tea and beer, and their sorrow over the impending divorce.

The only riots that will occur is if there isn’t a hard Brexit. Fake news.

A No Deal Brexit would be the best for the regular peeps in the UK, no crowd calming needed.

It is if the Remainders prevail and push it to an entirely new vote (or somehow were to still get May’s worse-than-nothing deal) that would be a big FU to the the citizens of the UK.

But of course they make this move to try to make it appear as the opposite.

That’s my question. 3500 is not a large number and I cannot imagine having a military conflict outside of the UK border over this. Must be to augment police within the UK as there will be globalist lefties much like our own that will take to the streets. But that’s a guess.

I have been wondering if May’s failure would spark a yellow jersey counterpart in the UK.
