Vote Will Decide If Marin’s Dixie School District Changes Its Name
CBS Bay Area ^ | 1/15/19 | By Melissa Caen

Concerned citizens submitted 12 petitions to change the name of the Dixie School District in Marin County. The district Board of Trustees now has 40 days to vote “yes” or “no” on the proposals.

California state law requires a governing school board to consider any proposal for a name change put forth by fifteen voters in a school district. (California Education Code 35001.)

On Wednesday night, the Board of Trustees will discuss the process of considering the petitions and will hear a presentation on the potential costs to change the district’s name on signs and other materials. The Superintendent estimates the cost at $18,283.

Now, mind you that this school district is named after an American Indian woman from the 1800s. But the snowflakes are bothered by it nonetheless. I guess we have another "niggardly" situation.

Nah, let's not worry about real issues such as crime, family, academic achievement, etc. in our community. Let's get outraged about some name that happens to be a word we don't like even though we don't even understand the real history.

California can go to hell. If they want to spend their time gazing into their navels regarding whether it is moral to refer to small paper cups as “Dixie Cups” or whether to watch re-runs of “Designing Women”, starring Dixie Carter, let them. I just don’t care anymore about that hell-bound state (which is my home state, I’m ashamed to say). They can do whatever they want, up to and including becoming their own country, which I welcome.

These people are racists who hate Native Americans.

How sad.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. They’re just whistling Dixie.

Dixie.

There is a local flag manufacturing company here in San Antonio. For years, they made flags for every occasion.

Some years back, when snowflakes decided the Confederate Flag was racist, this company swallowed the lie and announced it would no longer make Confederate Flags.

The name of that company? Dixie Flag and Banner Co.

Irony is lost. Lost I say, on stupid liberals.

well, if they are going to remove ‘dixie’ as somehow offensive, than they might as well remove all northern names too, since the north and south held slaves until 1829 or so. And then we can get to the ethnic names related to slavery - anything from Africa, India, Arabia, Asian, Canada, Europe, Polynesia, on and on.

Otherwise renaming the school is nothing more than cultural genocide of a specific population.

“Dixie is a synonym of the confederacy. It is a reminder of slavery, lynchings and segregation,” said Marnie Glickman, a trustee on the Dixie board.

History books are a reminder of slavery, lynchings, and segregation... Burn them all!

You don’t think that’s what they’re planning? The Bible will be used as the kindling.

LOL! My grade school alma mater. And it was pretty liberal even back in the 70’s, but nobody ever equated the name with the South. :)

Washington State has a problem. Maybe they should officially rename the state after Booker T. Washington. Of course Booker isn't considered militant enough today.

King County, Washington, was named for a Vice President of the US, but some years ago they changed it to be named for the civil rights leader.
