And...

I bet that NOT building won’t have a bearing on whether he gets re-elected or not. Sure, people around here will be pissed and moan for a while.

But when 2020 comes, if the economy is still good, if the market is doing well, if the tax reform puts money back in American’s pockets, if trade with China eases.... AND....

..when the Dems put up some stiff that is TOTALLY untenable, he’ll get re-elected Wall or No Wall.

It would actually be interesting and I’ll tell you why. Let’s suppose we have no wall and he does get re-elected.

Do we ever hear about a wall again? I bet not.

The Joint Chiefs have no say in this. The CIC is the ultimate authority. If a national emergency is declared they can either obey orders or resign. To disobey would be a political move. That is against the UCMJ. The military can only disobey an illegal order. Nothing about this is illegal. Congress has already authorized the wall, they just want to play politics. The military is not about to get in a food fight with Trump. Most of them agree with him anyway. Even if they don’t most will obey orders.

The words “Clear and present danger” come to mind.

I know they have no say. That’s why I called it a coup.

Right, the deal should be the government does not reopen until the wall is completed, or until Congress approves full funding for the wall, whichever comes first. It’s Chuck and Nancy’s choice, either fund the wall in it’s entirety now and open the government, or wait 6 months, have the wall built, and then reopen the government. Their call.

RE: Excellent. Build the wall!

Nothing I’d like better. I don’t see any reason why he couldnt have diverted 50 bil of military bugdet, used Army corps of engineers and had it completed a year ago. I’m suspecting he wants this hot potato on the table for 2020 election. Has anyone read anything that tells what additional executive authority or funding buckets would be available if this “Nat Emergency” is declared?

He absolutely should because if he doesn’t that wall IS NOT EVER going
To be built and you can wave goodbye to America.

In all honesty, wall or not , it might already be over.

One thing for sure...no matter how, that wall
Must be built right now.

President Trump left Washington on Thursday on a trip to McAllen, Texas, that he did not want to take to discuss a crisis on the border that Democrats say does not exist.

I went to the NYT site to verify this is actually what they wrote. “... he did not want to take to discuss...”? WTF? Don’t they even have editors over there anymore?

To stop the ongoing invasion the Mexican border with California should be closed. When Mexico decides they have a problem and significantly takes steps to resolve that problem there can be progress.

That’s what I suggested the other day. Close the border 100%. When Mexico has had enough THEY’LL build the wall on THEIR side. Our Congress therefore has no say - Trump gets his wall AND ends up with Mexico paying for it and we lose absolutely nothing.

I’m afraid you don’t understand. Trump WILL win the shutdown; but if he caves and goes with declaring a national emergency to build a wall the Dems will declare victory and throw up every possible judicial challenge delaying for months or more likely years.

He will not win the shutdown without giving them something to save face - and that could be millions of illegals given a path to citizenship.

.....according to the Politico article, apparently DOD has plenty of appropriated money that can be redirected to
“respond to requests by local law enforcement agencies.” So, for example, if Texas and Arizona requested DOD to build a wall,
the President could apparently direct that those funds, already appropriated, toward wall construction.......

A new wrinkle in wall funding.
