Skip to comments.Ted Cruz, Francis Rooney introduce constitutional amendment for 'term limits'.....

"The founders never envisioned a professional political class," said Rooney, in an appearance Saturday on Fox News.
The proposal would set members of the House to three terms and senators to two terms. Presidents are limited under the 22nd Amendment to two terms, while Supreme Court justices enjoy lifetime appointments.
"This is a much better way than having these entrenched politicians who are too aligned with special interests over a period of years. I would say 18 years is plenty of time to serve your country in," he said, referring to the total time someone could spend in Congress if elected in both chambers under the amendment.
Thursday does not mark the first time Cruz has tackled the issue. He also put forward similar legislation in 2017.

Good, though Id almost rather he start with the courts. When lifetime appointments were devised people did not live as long. I think 15 years on the district court and ten each on the court of appeal and Supreme Court. Still generous but some check on these people
Since we never heard about it going anywhere in 2017, it likely got shelved in the first committee it hit
They’d be lucky to get 25 votes between the 2 houses for it.
Phoney-baloney jobs must be protected
They get paid working or not, for life. That is the law to change.
I think individual states would have better luck. You could mandate via some state legislative effort that you lose your qualification to run for federal-type office after 12 years in DC. Or you could make it interesting by mandating that the Senator or House member you send up...can’t purchase or own a house in DC without losing his ability to run in the next election.
Senators and Representatives from California who are elected by ballot harvesting shall have a term limit of 30 days.
Yesterday’s news. Trump needs to give it a boost. Tell the public to take names. There will be Republicans who vote against it. It shows you how long it takes to get something done.
Elections are term limits...
Not if they are running every single cycle for decades.
Well something needs to be done about all these bench sitters who cease to recall they serve the people as soon as they take their seat ..put their feet up...and just go for the ride!
They’re a “protected class” and that needs to stop for sure!
Its about time.
Of course....they want to kill it before it even as a chance......put it on state ballots for elections and see what happens.
Much like voting themselves a raise, does it or will it ever exist in the private sector, no
Term limits are long overdue, but three terms is too short for the House. There is a very steep learning curve, especially for Members who do not come from state legislatures. Many are just hitting their stride after three or four years. And a lot of the heavy lifting in the House is done by experienced Members with five or six terms. I’d advocate a six term limit in the House, which would be equivalent to two terms in the Senate.
Yeah this will happen when hogs start pushing away from the slop trough. Read tag.
Six years for the House and twelve for the Senate? House isn’t going to like that. If this is going to have any chance of passage Cruz will have to narrow that gap.
