NAACP Supports South Florida Student Accused of Cheating on SAT
NBC MIAMI ^ | 1/4/19

The NAACP and several Miami-Dade County school board members are supporting a South Florida student whose 330-point SAT score increase has test administrators questioning whether she may have cheated.

Miami-Dade NAACP President Ruban Roberts spoke out Friday to demand answers surround the test taken by Dr. Michael Krop Senior High School student Kamilah Campbell. In the span of seven months Campbell took her score of 900 and turned it into a 1230...

....Crump also called the test culturally biased.

"If she was from a different community and a different neighborhood, would they be more likely to accept it then?" Crump said. "

Trayvon Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump is the girl's lawyer. They seem to be saying this girl's RACE is why her test scores were flagged.

I am betting lots of scores flagged, and we don't hear about them because the media doesn't care....until the race card is played by a lawyer over whom the fake news swoons.

This stupid story is all over Miami media.

My sister’s score went up that much. She was too stoned to take the test the first time and made a 480. I think the next score was in the 700’s.

Perhaps she cheated, maybe she did not cheat, but they need to present their evidence.

How does one propose to cheat on the SAT when you have no idea what’s on it?..................

You can probably get a 900 by just showing up and randomly checking boxes. Someone with that low of a score is probably not smart enough to devise a way to cheat, as the SAT is managed very strictly.

So if she studied, took some practice exams - I believe its entirely possible she would be able to get a significantly higher score.

Why are they accusing her of cheating? Do they have some evidence?

So, quietly ask her to take it again, and offer an award if she repeats for “most improved.”

"The ETS recently wrote Campbell a letter saying her scores are invalid because some of her answer patterns were too similar to those of others who took the test."

900 is pretty low, I Am saying that with some decent coaching, an increase like that is very reasonable.

You can study quite a lot in seven months, or maybe she just had a bad day on the first attempt. Real evidence of actual cheating, or GTFO.

I think the girl is being unfairly treated, but they can’t have known her race to the racism charge is absurd.

“Trayvon Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump is the girl’s lawyer.” RED FLAG

I am sick of the “cultural bias” BS. Another red flag.

This is the American culture - she’s an American. Period.

As to the cheating accusation, don’t know. That’s a pretty significant jump. OTOH, suppose she took the test the first time under the influence of a bad cold or something else that affected her ability to perform at her best. Some tutoring and a well rested state on try 2 could generate that big of an improvement.

But, reading the story, and knowing VERY well how public school administrators and school boards operate. I gotta believe they are going on more than the increased score. A black female is a huge lawsuit waiting to happen. And they are cowards if nothing else.

Why are they accusing her of cheating? Do they have some evidence?

Her answers were apparently very similar to someone sitting next to her, which is why she was flagged (by the computer checking the results, I believe). The press always leave that part out.

I used to SAT prep. Every year, there would be one or two who would raise their SAT scores that much. With proper math tutoring, if a student hadn't already scored over 600 (they already had a good day, might have maxed out) if a student did not increase at least 50 points in Math it was a money-back guarantee. Robert Moses and Jaime Escalante and their students were famously and erronously condemned on the assumption that their results were impossible for the students they worked with. The worst I heard when scores went way up is that I was "rocking the boat".

The girl should not be accused of anything. For starters, it's very hard to cheat on an SAT. If it happened, a monitor had to be involved. If that's the case, the young lady shouldn't even come into the discussion. That would make her a victim, too. If that happened, the monitor should permanently lose their teaching certificates and be charged with fraud.

ETS is full of it here. You can’t copy. Impossible. I’ve proctored the test.

You code what version of the test you are using. The tests are serialized, and you pass them out in row order. It makes copying an idiotic idea.

Possible to cheat? Absolutely, but not by copying someone else. The absolute easiest way to do it is via camera embedded in a pair of classes, hooked bluetooth into a wifi transmitter that allows someone in the parking lot with a monitor to answer the questions for you.

Reason why they may be saying what they are saying is because the written part of the exam and the multiple choice part are so far out of whack that it has to be something like that.

Not if the monitor is doing their job. Photo ID is required, plus filling in personal information at the start.
