It wasn’t all bad news at the box office this past year.

The movie industry as a whole may be boringly left-wing, but occasionally a conservative message breaks through, sometimes intentionally and sometimes accidentally or because filmmakers simply applied themselves to telling the truth. Here are ten films that brought conservative concepts to the multiplex in 2018, ranked according to conservative firepower:

RE: 10. Mary Poppins Returns

The same National Review just panned the movie as promoting socialism. See here:

https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/01/mary-poppins-returns-with-a-socialist-subtext/

TITLE: ‘Mary Poppins Returns,’ with Socialist Subtext

Apparently, their writers don’t agree with teach other.

Mary Poppins and Black panther are the only two I’ve ever heard of. I tried to watch black panther on Netflix but it took five viewings to get all the way through, and even then I finally just started skipping through fight scenes.

The movie could not suspend disbelief for me.

The “superior technology” coupled with “surviving ancient culture” just didn’t work. What also didn’t work was all the warriors being female. That was just stupid. I couldn’t take the movie seriously.

With the exception of “Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer”, I wouldn’t slap the “officially conservative” label on the movies.

Just yesterday there was an entire thread on here about how the new Mary Poppins flick is Socialist claptrap.

I’m looking for “Vice” on this list, but I don’t see it. I guess they ran out of room ... [/s]

I think Vox Lux was a brand of soap my grandmother used to use.

"I tried to watch black panther on Netflix but it took five viewings to get all the way through, and even then I finally just started skipping through fight scenes."

You did better than me. I got 15 minutes in, got bored and paused it, and never made it back.

The only new movie I watched this year was Aquaman. It was about a blue collar Hard working American who has to stop a rich elitist bent on destroying the world to save the environment. I guess it could Be interpreted as “right wing”.

Forget movies. I just discovered the FX series “Justified” currently on Amazon Prime and I’m having a blast power watching my way through it. It’s much better than any full length movie I’ve seen in a few years.

Conservative film critics bend over backwards to read conservatism into movies, and desperately try to find movies with a conservative theme. Only one movie on that list could remotely be considered “conservative” - Gosnell. One of them - Mary Poppins — most definitely isn’t and the rest are just entertainment. Conservatives need to stop trying to read conservatism into songs or movies or books. The entertainment world, for the most part, is not conservative. It probably won’t be in my lifetime. Articles like this are sad attempts to find something that isn’t there.

Gosnell - if you haven't seen it, you must.
That means all of you....

“What also didn’t work was all the warriors being female. That was just stupid. I couldn’t take the movie seriously.”

That’s what they call a conservative movie? One that intentionally puts down males and advances the narrative of Feminazis?

Thanks for your cogent review, I’ll avoid it like the plague.

Some surprises here.

This illustrates to me an interesting phenomenon. Even liberal film makers occasionally stumble upon truth and instinctively know that their film will be more successful if they go ahead and show a little bit of it.

Evil is real and truth is absolute - that’s heavy dude.

Black Panther????? WTF are they thinking? I must have entered the wrong theater and saw a different movie by the same name.

Well, to be fair, it did have awesome special effects, but that is the ONLY redeeming quality. I mean, literally, other than for eye candy the whole thing is worthless.

I watched "The Death of Stalin" expecting a serious, in-depth look at the Soviet power structure of the mid-20th century.

Within 20 minutes, I was thinking "what the...?"

It was historical drama meets Cohen brothers.

It was still worth watching.
