‘Vice’ Review: The best superhero origin story of the year (video/trailer included below)

Vice—the new biopic about our greatest living vice president, Dick Cheney—is the movie our country needs right now: a story about a small-town guy who overcame the odds and kept his fellow Americans safe in an age of nihilistic terror. It is also the hagiography we need right now, a reminder that America's greatness lies not with its natural resources or fantastic wealth but within the spirit of her citizens.

One gets the sense that writer/director Adam McKay intended Vice as a damning critique of the Republican Party's Darth Vader. If that's the case, he's badly missed the mark. The Dick Cheney we see in Vice is someone to admire, someone who has overcome adversity and made something of himself despite early stumbles.

As the film opens, Cheney (Christian Bale) is working out in the wilds of Wyoming, stringing telephone line. He's been kicked out of Yale, reduced to manual labor and hard drinking in order to numb the pain of his being expelled. Fortunately, he has a good, strong woman to turn him around: Lynne (Amy Adams) sets him straight, telling him that if he wants to prove himself worthy of her love, he better snap out of it.

Snap out of it he does: the portrait that emerges of Dick Cheney is that of a man who adores and works for his family first, last, forever.

I saw the trailer of the movie, and have no clue if the movie is reliable. It probably is not.

However, that guy who plays Cheney is unbelievably good. He should get an Oscar.

Some of these actors amaze me with their acting ability. , However, it shows absolutely nothing about their own person. But, sometimes, the real person can bleed through.

Faye Dunaway did such a good job (I guess) in “Mommie Dearest” that it harmed her career.

That clip makes it seem like Cheney was trying to usurp the president’s power from Bush.

Nevertheless, there is some truth to Cheney’s power, where he did perform like he was the president at times. Were it not for Cheney, we could’ve ended up with the Bush 43 presidency being like Bush 41.

In any case, Cheney should have been president at some period of time. Trump is more like him now. Trump and Cheney: two of the most hated politicians by liberals. Must’ve been doing a lot of things right.

I just figured this must be a hit piece on Cheney. Hollywoood, etc., hate him so much, I cannot believe they would do anything to elevate his persona. Will watch out for the reviews.

Dick Cheney greatest living vice President. Sheesh. Joe Biden will be the first to tell you that Joe Biden is the greatest living Vice President ever.

Besides, as I pointed out to a Cheney-hating coworker:

Cheney shot a lawyer in the face with a shotgun. How can you not like a guy like that?

I love Dick Cheney. Why? Dude has balls. Dude has brains. I saw him speak live, great speaker. Real man. A girl can appreciate a real man, not these metrosexuals like pj boy.

Christian Bale is one of the best. Already has at least one Oscar already.

If you want to see a great Christian Bale movie rent Empire of the Sun by Spielberg. Bale is the lead.

Thank you! Much more concise definition than was rattling around in my head!

Thanks. So unnecessary!

One of the reasons I love President Trump that he doesn’t use words like hagiography or nihilistic.

It was probably intended to be a hit piece. But in an age of effeminate hipsters and transgenders, Cheney in the film probably comes off like a John Wayne man of action type surrounded by wusses.

Let's see... There's Walter Mondale, Dan Quayle, Al Gore, Dick Cheney, Joe Biden, Mike Pence.

Not a big group to pick from. Personally, I'd rather have Pence.

If you do some snooping into the secret right wing Hollywood underground, Batman seems to tie into all of it. Hint hint.

I like that, unlike the Bush clan and Romney, Cheney has refused to attack Trump — announcing his support for DJT in March 2016 when the NeverTrumpers started their machinations, and praising his pardon of Lewis Libby.
