RALEIGH, N.C. - North Carolina voters will be asked to show photo identification when they go to the polls next year, barring intervention by a court.

The Republican-led Legislature took the final step to shrug off Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's veto of its photo ID bill, with the House voting 72-40 Wednesday to override after a long debate that touched on the state's history of voter suppression.

The state Senate took its override vote Tuesday.

Minutes after the House vote, the Southern Coalition for Social Justice announced that a lawsuit challenging the voter ID law had been filed in Wake County Superior Court.

The Rev. T. Anthony Spearman, president of the North Carolina NAACP, said the organization would announce a lawsuit Thursday.

I thought a similar law has been passed and already gone through the courts and was upheld. Don’t remember the state,

Yep, and ICYMI, as his last major act in office, Gov. Scott Walker signed legislation a week ago that scales back the authority of his successor, diminishes the power of the incoming Democratic attorney general and limits early voting.

And as a final poke in the eye to democrats, he exercises a provision of the present law that the incoming democrat governor will not have, to give a $28 million incentive to Kimberley-Clark to retain WI jobs.

So there’s a lot of winning going on at the state level too.

That should be until intervention by a court. Because some busybody federal judge somewhere will strike it down.

Sorry, you’re misinformed. Florida has had voter ID for decades. The problem is the South Florida Dem strongholds that create havoc with absentee ballots, voter fraud, and ballots appearing magically after the vote.

What we really need is a law that prohibits absentee ballots, except for verifiable proof that a voter cannot get to the polls during early voting, or on election day.

Another thing that would help is the prohibition of third party voter registration organizations. These groups can photocopy the registration forms (with signatures), before handing them in.

Then these voter registration groups (usually Dems) can vote absentee for those they registered, that couldn’t be bothered to go to a Supervisor of Elections office to register.

Because some busybody federal judge somewhere will strike it down.

But not till it will negate the ability for it to be recinded till after the election!
