Shutdown threat recedes as Trump softens stance on wall.

President Donald Trump appeared Tuesday to back off his demand for $5 billion to build a border wall, signaling for the first time that he might be open to a deal that would avoid a partial government shutdown.

The White House set the tone when press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders indicated that Trump doesn’t want to shut down the government, though just last week he said he’d be “proud” to do so. The president would consider other options and the administration was looking at ways to find the money elsewhere, Sanders said.

It was a turnaround after days of impasse. Without a resolution, more than 800,000 government workers could be furloughed or sent to work without pay beginning at midnight Friday, disrupting government operations days before Christmas.

Shut down 17% of the government. The unnecessary part.

Why isn’t that 17% shut down year round?

This is standard Trump tactics. Appear to be open minded allowing opposition to offer its position followed by absolute rejection of a completely unacceptable offer. That has already happened. Trump will get his (our) wall, butterfly gardens notwithstanding.

Caving on the wall was inevitable when the American people voted heavily for Democrats in the House elections on November 6. It’s been all downhill since the election.

Well, one thing I am sure of. Next Christmas is either going to be much, much better or much, much worse for conservatives.

Hmmm. Not sure where this is headed. WH spokesman Hogan Gidley is about to appear on WMAL DC 630/105.9. Let’s listen.

Bull. A friend of mine is full time National Guard. When these shutdowns occur he gets sent home because he is non essential. and then when it is over he gets paid anyway. He calls them paid vacations. If we had real journalists they would mention this.

Plus, if Trump caves on this YET AGAIN he is done. He currently has the White House, House and Senate and still gets rolled.

So letting violent felons out of prison early must have been acceptable,. All of those victims and their families. Maybe even the criminal who shot my daughter.
What a wonderful Christmas gift, wrapped in a bump stock ban.
What an amazing presidency, giving everything thexlibs drean of.
Next up trillions in chuck n nancy spending, or maybe amnesty.
When he us done we may not want a wall, might need to get out ourselves.. take over a nice country and keep our Constitution.

The Swamp is refilling faster than Trump can drain it.

Two+ years later and no Wall, no Lock Her Up, a Federal Bump Stock ban, the list goes on.

Soon we shall see how Trump did on his number one reason he was voted into office - Supreme Court Justices, and how squishy Kavanaugh turns out to be. Roberts has done a hard left, becoming the self-aggrandizing "swing vote" which gets him invited to all of the cool DC cocktail parties.

I’m upset as anyone else is, but the reality is, the Republican blew it the last two years and the majority do not want the wall.....100% of Democrats will vote against it, and probably 50% of the Republicans will vote against it, so in the end shutting down Government is not going to accomplish anything.....what I would do, is take what you can get and use military funds to start construction of the wall.......

“and the majority do not want the wall”

Limbaugh says all of Washington doesn’t want the wall only because they don’t want to give Trump that victory.

Trump says all of Washington wants Trump gone.

This is what Trump is up against.

the Republican blew it the last two years and the majority do not want the wall...

You got it. Cannot go anywhere when those in your own party, those who were quick to jump on your steamroller, refuse to adopt any of your ideas. It is the deplorables verses the state and the state is undefeated, been that way since the dawn of time. What bother me is they have him so pinned down on this collusion BS, he seems to have taken his eye off the ball.

The major enemy of the people and principal POS is giving his farewell speech soon, Ryan. I hope that backstabbing bastard fares poorly.

You shouldn't believe such nonsense.

It's more likely that Paul Ryan promised to start impeachment proceedings over the weekend if Trump did a shutdown.

regardless of how discouraged everyone is at this time, it could all turn around in an instant if Trump finds the way to building the wall between now and 2020

And from what empirical evidence do you draw that conclusion? All I’ve seen is talk for 2 years. I saw a line in the sand last week. Now, it looks as if that’s not such a clear line. So far the standard Trump tactic seems to be talk real tough about never signing this or that ever again but then back off.
