The fight over President Donald Trump’s $5 billion wall funds deepened Monday, threatening a partial government shutdown in a standoff that has become increasingly common in Washington.
It wasn’t always like this, with Congress and the White House at a crisis over government funding. The House and Senate used to pass annual appropriation bills, and the president signed them into law. But in recent years the shutdown scenario has become so routine that it raises the question: Have shutdowns as a negotiating tool lost their punch?
Monday brought few signs of progress. A partial shutdown that could occur at midnight Friday risks disrupting government operations and leaving hundreds of thousands of federal employees furloughed or working without pay over the holiday season. Costs would be likely in the billions of dollars....

Shut it down after an executive order that back pay is lost during a shut down.
The affected are furloughed through the holiday anyway. Shut it down at least till the 4th of July. Suspend pay for Congress through 2019.

How about we do not pay government workers, but dedicate that money to the wall.

Shut it down. Maybe people will realize most government “workers “ are “nonessential “. Don’t give them back pay as makes it a paid vacay...ripping - off the taxpayers . That is what usually happens . Pathetic .

Sure it has.....we just didn’t have it plastered daily throughout the news cycles.

1/4th of the government would be affected... including the departments of Homeland Security,... Transportation,.... Agriculture,... State and Justice,..... as well as national parks.
500 billion dollars a month to run ‘our’ corrupt stasi state...Yet, they REFUSE to provide a paltry 5 billion dollars to secure our borders.
Can it get anymore absurd than this?
I would be thrilled to have a paid vacation! Interest rates are so low it doesn’t matter if I eventually get paid for my time off 3 or so months down the raod.
