Actually, that is not the case. It’s a good idea though.
Imagine how low the enrollment figures would be if all Americans were allowed to buy any plan that suited their needs and budget.
Our society has to make the following choice.
Do you want to...
a. force everybody else to pay to take care of irresponsible people that choose not to have health insurance, or do you want the irresponsible people to...
b. be left to their own devices which include their own resources, relatives, friends and private charities?
If a. then I’m in favor of giving the irresponsibles a choice. You either get insurance or you get money withheld from your paycheck which will go to pay for the doctor and/or hospital when you need it. (individual mandate)
If b. then the irresponsibles are on their own and can do as they wish.
The way it is right now is a travesty, you can be irresponsible and still get treated and let the responsibles foot the bill.
