THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
HARRY WARREN
ORCHESTRA WIVES: SERENADE IN BLUE
From the late Forties comes a fine soft jazz interpretation of the song from a genuine master.
Erroll Garner: Serenade in Blue

Howdy, Publius.
How are things in your neck o’ the woods these days? Staying extra-busy or are things running at a comfortable pace?

Howdy, LUV.
Have things calmed down there at last? No wind howling?
WET here with a little wind but at least it’s fairly warm. Not gonna complain.

This time of year tends to be quiet. But I gave a presentation to a rail meeting in Tucson last week and interviews with the local Tucson newspaper and the Phoenix NPR affiliate.

I never liked Doo Whop, Sure I get it, I have A Platters LP, But Gene Chandler never grabbed me... Duke, Duke Duke of Earl..Duke, Duke of Earl, A Chart bound sound? LOL! In the song, the Duke of Earl boasted that nothing could stop him. Yet he was eventually stopped--by a girl! It wasn't long before he was conquered by the Duchess of Earl. This seemed to make him happy. The Duke and his Duchess were later seen walking on together.

One of my favorite tunes from that time:

Funny routine. LOL
Too bad Buddy was such a jerk in person. I met him once in Durham, NC when he was there to lose weight on a rice diet program. A rude, nasty little man that I wanted to squash like a bug.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
HARRY WARREN
ORCHESTRA WIVES: SERENADE IN BLUE
This 1955 version shows how this song can take a fine jazz treatment and survive with a smile.
Stan Getz: Serenade in Blue
