Senator McSally? Jon Kyl Is Gone At The End Of The Month(T)

Well, this was expected. Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) is out at the end of the month. Kyl served previously in the Senate before retiring after the 2012 elections. He left public life, but agreed to fill in temporarily for the late Sen. John McCain. Gov. Doug Ducey, who handily won re-election this year, now has to appoint a replacement. Could it be Martha McSally, who barely lost to Senator-elect Kyrsten Sinema in November? It’s still possible, but word is spreading that her stock has fallen in the governor’s office. One of the reasons was reportedly due to her campaign team’s memo on why she lost to Sinema (via WaPo):

Well, movietone(sin-enema) did beat her so would she be a good appointment? Her team apparently didn't do her any favors. Maybe she didn't do herself any favors. AZ folks care to weigh in or suggest someone else?

McSally has no shame. I would be embarrassed to show up in the Senate after losing. What a disgrace these Republicans are.

Rumor from inside the Arizona Legislature is that will be Kirk Adams, Ducey's chief of staff. He will be a placeholder because Ducey wants the seat for himself the next time it comes up in an election.

The RNC is heavily pressuring Ducey to name McSally, but he is resisting the pressure.

I hate the idea of rewarding failure but its not my state.
If it was me I would argue for a completely fresh but known (Locally) conservative face!
Arizona Freepers what say you?

Okay. No McSally. Who can hold the seat in 20? Joe Arpaio and Kelly Ward are sure to lose. Who?

One is a post-election memo her campaign strategists provided to The Washington Post last month, which attributed her defeat in November to external factors. Among them: strong Democratic fundraising, a geographic disadvantage and voter hostility toward President Trump.

The memo sparked outrage inside Ducey’s circle and among broader swaths of influential Republicans, who felt her team did not own up to its strategic mistakes and was trying to deflect blame for her loss to Democratic Rep. Kyrsten Sinema.

“The RNC is heavily pressuring Ducey to name McSally, but he is resisting the pressure.”

The problem with McSally is she appears to be a weak Republican. Weak on conservative values.

Of course, that makes her attractive to the RNC-types.

Hmmm? Wasn’t there another weak republicrat senator from AZ that flew military jets? Escapes me at the moment. Anyway, AZ FReepers?

The Turtle wants McSally in that spot
and made it very clear a few weeks back.
Sometimes, a political talent can be spotted early.
Sort of like seeing star quality in a young actor.

Go ask Alex about that sort of thing.
I think she’ll know.

From afar, Matt Salmon looks like a good choice. Yeah, I know he just retired from the House two years ago - but he maybe a good placeholder until the next election.

How ‘bout Dave Schweikert, an current member of the House. Again from afar, he looks sufficiently conservative.

And although it wouldn’t happen, for pure entertainment purposes and to also watch Democrats heads explode, how ‘bout JD Hayworth?

McSally is a weak sister. Maybe she has learned her lesson after a poorly run campaign and loss. I doubt it.

I know very little about him. I’ve had dealings with the governor’s transportation advisor, but not his chief of staff.

I think the governor should respect the will of the voters. They just had their say as to whether they wanted McSally to be their senator, and they rejected her for a far-left liberal who had called them all stupid.

I think it would be a slap in the face to those voters to overrule their choice and put her in.

Surely there must be SOME person under the age of 50 who could do the job of a senator?

To me, rewarding failure only makes sense if you have no expectation that the seat will be held by the GOP in the future anyway.

If a U.S. Senate seat in New Jersey had been vacated while Chris Christie was governor, for example, he could name any solid Republican political figure or outlandish GOP character to fill the seat temporarily because it would go back to the Democrats in the next Senate election anyway.
