Prosecutors’ Narrative Is Clear: Trump Defrauded Voters. But What Does It Mean?
New York Times ^ | Dec. 8, 2018 | Peter Baker, Nicholas Fandos

WASHINGTON — The latest revelations by prosecutors investigating President Trump and his team draw a portrait of a candidate who personally directed an illegal scheme to manipulate the 2016 election and whose advisers had more contact with Russia than Mr. Trump has ever acknowledged.

In the narrative that the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, and New York prosecutors are building, Mr. Trump continued to secretly seek to do business in Russia deep into his presidential campaign even as Russian agents made more efforts to influence him. At the same time, in this account he ordered hush payments to two women to suppress stories of impropriety in violation of campaign finance law. (My deemphasis.)

If this is the standard, then the New York Times is a criminal enterprise, defrauding the electorate with a pretense of objectivity while covering up anything that could hurt a Democrat. Their entire operations are campaign contributions that have been feloniously omitted from disclosure.

All of this rests on the word of a perjurer and liar who says whatever prosecutors told him to say to save his own skin.

Their star witness! Apart from a guy with an axe to grind, they have nothing.

They don’t have anything from the President’s own mouth on which they could Indict him.

Prosecutors haven’t come up with a real crime despite two years of looking for one.

When all is said and done, that’s the bottom line.

".... they’re not after Trump, they’re after us. Trump is just in the way....."

I agree but I think it goes a step further than that for the democRATS.

They're not after Trump and his deplorables, they're after control of the country. Trump and the rest of us are just in the way.

1. The real estate deal with Russia was (a) not illegal and (b) did not go through.

2. Any Trump payments to Stormy Daniels (or other women) were (a) not about any activities between them that were illegal, b) not payments that were illegal to make - it is not illegal to pay someone to keep silent about matters that were not in the first place illegal themselves, and (c) not paid from Trump campaign funds and thus not a violation of election laws.

3. No where in any of it does it show political collusion with Russia.

> “will be told by the Attorney General and by the Courts that the remedy for Presidential misbehavior is via impeachment”

Correct, almost. The remedy for prosecuting a government official are three things:

1. Impeachment
2. Removal by Conviction
3. Prosecution once removed

Here the scenarios with respect to POTUS:

* House impeaches
* Senate acquits
* Aftermath
... Dems blame Senate for failure to convict, campaign to take Senate
... NonDems expose Dems wasting time to impeach without case, campaign to take House

... if Trump voters knew he had extramarital affairs that they would have voted for the witch OR stayed home.

Had it been Jeb=stay home

Rubio=stay home
Cruz=might have held my nose and voted (and may do so in future if the opportunity presents)

We can hope so. However at this point our “ruling class” HAS NO FEAR of the citizens.

The idea of a crime, or a tort, called “defrauding voters” is just the latest elaboration of the Democrat theory of “voter intent”.

This all goes back to Voltaire and the “general will”, as updated by Lenin by his advocacy of revolutionary violence because of “false consciousness” on the part of the working class.

Republicans and Democrats are no longer on the same page with regard to elections - how to conduct them, how to decide when they are over, how to tally the results, and how to decide who wins.

It is literally true, as has become obvious since this November, that the only acceptable result to the Democrats is a Democrat victory, since that’s what the voter actually want, or what they would want if only they didn’t have access to right wing propaganda.

This has created a very unstable situation, which is only going to get worse.
