Jeff Flake is trying to screw us over one more time, wants a bill passed to “protect” Mueller or he will block all judges.

A##wipe.

No more McConnell judges like the one who supported Acosta over the duly-elected President.

Judge was just setting it up to get a SCOTUS ruling. A much stronger ruling in long run.

They will probably be running this story the last week of December too just like the one on the wall fund bill was never passed the first two years of the TRUMP admn with both sides of congress...chicken sh*t lying repubs...no wonder the house was lost in the midterms...but TRUMP has an uphill battle to win in 2020 with both party leaderships against him and a base less than 50% behind him. I fear a one term...and that was not enough to stop to stop the country from becoming Venezuela quickly when he is gone!

There are currently 11 Circuit Court seats open.

Hopefully the Turtle can ram most of these through by January.

I think the total breaks down like this:

9 SCOTUS judges

There are 179 Circuit Court judges.

There are 678 Active District Court Judge positions.

These are totals. Obviously no president is going to get to appoint the entire judiciary. IMO, it’s the SCOTUS and Circuit Court judges who are really important. The Circuit Courts heat a lot of cases that never reach the SCOTUS. That makes them really important from a practical standpoint. District Court judges can always be overruled if they issue a bad ruling but there are a really limited number of cases the SCOTUS can rule on.

Percentages would be good as a progress indicator.

22% of SCOTUS, 16% Circuit, 8% District is where we are at with these numbers

The added cushion not only means that it will be easier for McConnell to get nominees confirmed, it also means that
Trump and his team can have more leeway to nominate more conservative judges given that there is now less pressure to placate centrists.

Currently, there are 112 district court vacancies and 11 appellate vacancies on the federal bench. Going into this election, the Senate had confirmed 84 Trump judges.

If Trump fills all of the current vacancies, nearly one in four federal judges will have been appointed by Trump. This does not take into account any additional vacancies that could come up over the next two years. This could have a transformative effect on the judicial branch, and will likely figure heavily in the 2020 election as Trump will tout judges as a leading example of how he delivered for conservatives.

Senators were deadlocked 50-50 to end debate on Thomas Farr’s nomination to be a district judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Pence, presiding over the chamber, then cast the tie-breaking vote.
