Monica Lewinsky says 'grief' led her to take part in new docuseries 'The Clinton Affair'

With "The Clinton Affair," Monica Lewinsky is ready to revisit the 1998 sex scandal that nearly unraveled Bill Clinton's presidency, and she hopes by doing so she can retire the term "Lewinsky scandal" once and for all.

"I think 20 years is enough time to carry that mantle," the former White House intern, now 45, writes in a new Vanity Fair essay published Tuesday.

In the essay, she explains what motivated her to take part in the 6 1/2-hour series, which premieres Sunday (9 EST/PST) from Emmy-winning producer Blair Foster ("Get Me Roger Stone," "Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind") and Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney ("Taxi to the Dark Side," "The Looming Tower").

Another impetus, she says, was grief: "Grief for the pain I caused others. Grief for the broken young woman I had been before and during my time in D.C., and the shame I still felt around that.

Grief for having been betrayed first by someone I thought was my friend, and then by a man I thought had cared for me. Grief for the years and years lost, being seen only as 'That Woman' – saddled, as a young woman, with the false narrative that my mouth was merely a receptacle for a powerful man’s desire. (You can imagine how those constructs impacted my personal and professional life.)"

I am very sad for what she had to go through. I just want to give her a big hug. I can’t imagine. It was all so unfair for her.

I’ve always felt terribly sorry for her. BUT - she wants to apologize to Hillary? FOR WHAT?

Um, No. Look at all the women who came before and AFTER you, Monica!

This sexual PREDATOR is what he is...and his WIFE aided and abetted him EVERY step of the way!

And rumor has it...she’s running for President - AGAIN?!?!

Democrats are thoroughly lobotomized when it comes to the Clintons. I’ll NEVER understand it. Never.

Ping to my Post #6. I felt sorry for her...up until today.

However, she’s been pretty ‘mum’ about it all for 20 years. Did the hush money finally run out?

One wonders. ;)

Arkancide Threat? More likely.

How has she been able to live at ‘The Watergate’ and support herself all these years? I never looked into it.

Considering how this makes Hillary feel I wish Monica had taken the stage more often and more loudly.

Are we going to get a blow by blow account of the details? I hope not the less I know about Billy Boy the happier I am.

Anything that reminds us of what a pig was Bill Clinton is a good thing.

Tough situation for her. As an adventure, she got the big fish. The affair would likely have fizzled and been forgotten, except he was too powerful, too famous, and in public political combat.

She got caught in that web,and then she couldn’t ever get away from it. It must have screwed up her love life almost completely, for a long time, if not forever.
