Trump takes heat over scrapped trip to cemetery in France
Fox News ^ | 11/10/18 | Elizabeth Zwirz

The White House and President Trump took some heat on Saturday after it was announced that he would not make a previously scheduled visit to a cemetery in France for Americans killed in World War I due to inclement weather.

Trump arrived in France on Friday to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, along with first lady Melania Trump. They'd planned to visit Ainse-Marne American Cemetery in Belleau, France. The president was expected to lay a wreath and observe a moment of silence.

The first couple was supposed to travel to the site via helicopter, according to The Hill. But the White House released a statement, saying the visit had been called off.

“The President and First Lady’s trip to Ainse-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial has been canceled due to scheduling and logistical difficulties caused by the weather,” the statement said. “An American delegation led by Chief of Staff General John Kelly and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joe Dunford will attend on their behalf.”

The decision drew negative reactions from two officials who served in previous administrations.

David Frum, a speechwriter for former President George W. Bush, took to Twitter to slam the move, insisting that other transportation accommodations could’ve been made in case of poor weather.

“It's not even 60 miles from central Paris to the monument. If the weather is too wet & windy for helicopters, a presidential motorcade could drive the distance in an hour,” Frum tweeted. “On site, presidential advance could easily erect a tent to protect the dignitaries (and the the presidential hair-do) from inclement weather.”

A later tweet said, “Two words: contingency plans. Previous White Houses made them.”

AMEN! I am so glad the President listened to his security people. There are terrorists in France who would no doubt have loved it if his security had been compromised.

The other “leaders” can just go to Hxxx.

I’m sure Macron, Merkel, and Trudeau are incensed at Trump dissing them before they could diss him. Actually Macron already did that.

"I always brush and comb."

Sometimes I get the two mixed up. I comb my teeth and brush my hair. At least my follicles won't get cavities.

Frum is an A-hole. Even when there is a long motorcade like that, there are helicopters that fly protective backup. There are also predetermined landing zones for emergency evac. This is not just done on the spur of the moment. If the copters can’t fly, there is no motorcade.

Maybe they’d have been better off under gerry rule as opposed to succumbing to eventual muzzie rule. Just food for thought.

...”I’m happy President Trump and Melania decided not to visit because the weather was too iffy for a helicopter ride.

And I don’t give a rats ass what other people think.

The safety of President Trump and his family ALWAYS comes first.”...

Yes. We know that the haters would like to see something happen to him. They are trying their best to find a way to get rid of him otherwise and it is not working. They would love it if he was removed as a result of being in harm’s way. Helicopter’s are dangerous in bad weather. I fear that some very bad people are trying to set the encroaching dictatorship in stone. Look at the lawless acts which are taking place without consequence. I flinch when I read about what is going on in the FL election aftermath. Even a child would know that it stinks. The person or persons responsible for that should be removed promptly and replaced with honest bipartisan people. My concern is that too many on the left like the criminal behavior and will not stand against it. No nation can survive the support of people who accept death and destruction of their fellow citizens to gain personal power. The best selling book of all time, the Bible, tells all about those people and their own end, for anyone who cares to know. Sending love to our Veterans today, for without them we would have lost our nation a long time ago. I would love to have a Congress and Judiciary full of them.

Terrorists with Libyan-made MANPADS don’t give a hoot about those three dorks.

I don’t think anyone would sweat too much if they really were Libyan-made.

Now, Soviet-made trafficked from Libya would be a little more troubling.

‘can’t President Trump go to Normandy?”

Well, yes, he can, but the event being celebrated is the end of World War I, and Normandy was part of World War II.

"a presidential motorcade could drive the distance in an hour"

Bingo! An unplanned, hour long car ride by the President in a part of the world where terrorists are on the ascent? Sure, that makes perfect sense. David Frum should move to France. I'm sure he'd fit right in there.

You’re probably right. They would have the President drive in a motorcade for one hour through France?!? That would have been stupid and smacks of something more sinister.

“Ah, big deal. Our boys bailed out the Frogs from the Gerries, with the Russkies’ help. Not impressed those three loser nations made the visit in vain. Trump just gave them all a virtual middle finger. Maybe if NATO “allies” started to carry their own weight, they would not be so offended.”

Lol, yeh. There’s a snow balls chance in hell that the EU will build their own military and develop a unified defense strategy. They refuse to even spend the agreed upon 2% of GDP on their military. To go their own way and create their own military would cost a lot more than the 2% they currently refuse to pay. A hollow empty bluff. Trump should call it, hope he does....

So THEY complained because President Trump did not go to an event yesterday because THEY know better about weather and security. And THEY complained when Dick Cheney did go to an even because THEY know better about what a man with a heart condition who just happens to be from Wyoming should wear in cold conditions. But THEY always swooned at whatever Batthouse Barry did and Moochelle wore because THEY know better about giving inappropriate gifts to heads of state and strutting around in hideous attire. THEY simply know better.
