In the old days, an accredited reporter (attached to a legitimate newspaper or publication, with some new additions for the underground press), was issued by the DC Police Department. THey could take it away for any legitimate reason so your publication/network’s pass wasn’t worth shit for addition to certain events.

You also needed a press card pass/or accreditation to sit in the press section/table during
Congress/hearings, etc. I had one. Sat next to one of the worst Marxist/prima donna aholes in all the history of the Wash. Post, Mary McGrory. Talk about NASTY. She made Madonna and Chelsea Handler seem like saints (and that is never going to happen).

However, McGrory never made an ass of herself during a hearing or press conference, like Acosta does all the time.
