Jeff Sessions weighs possible bid for old Senate seat in Alabama
Fox News ^ | 9 Nov 18 | Alex Pappas

Jeff Sessions, ousted as President Trump’s attorney general this week, is contemplating a run for his old Alabama Senate seat in 2020 against Democratic Sen. Doug Jones -- though those who know Sessions aren't convinced he will ultimately pull the trigger on another campaign.

A source close to the former attorney general told Fox News that Sessions is “considering it but his mind isn't made up.” That person added that Sessions, known for his stances on illegal immigration and trade, “was advocating for the Trump agenda back when it was called the Sessions agenda.”

Others, though, don’t see Sen. Sessions 2.0 actually happening.

“He should spend his time being the devoted husband, father, and grandfather we know he is,” said Garrett Murch, a former Sessions Senate aide.

Another plugged-in Alabama politico who knows Sessions said, “I think he plans to have a private life.”

Sessions told Judith Miller in a Wall Street Journal interview published Friday that he hasn’t decided on his future plans, though said, “I want some family time and to let my head clear.”

Sessions also defended Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe in the interview, saying he’s “confident” it will be handled “appropriately and with justification.”

While he didn’t rule out a run, Sessions told the paper he is now drawn more to executive, rather than legislative, public service.

Still, those in Alabama touting a possible Sessions return to the Senate include Luther Strange, the Republican who temporarily replaced Sessions in the Senate last year. In a tweet Wednesday, Strange said, “Jeff Sessions for Senate in 2020!”

That was trumps executive order. He did it cuz he knew sessions had to recuse so if he knew he had to recuse why he pick Rosenstein? You guys can’t be this stuoid

Actually, as Senator, the elf Jeff Sessions had a pretty good reputation.

He just was not a very good Attorney General.

Peter Principle at work. He had simply been promoted to a point beyond his level of competence.

One of the pitfalls of government by hierarchy.

Go away, Jeff. Don’t embarrass yourself - or us - any further.

Sessions will go down as the greatest attorney general.

Based on his record of doing what, exactly?

Magoo made an excellent senator; prop him up in a chair, feed him 3x a day and water as necessary.

“Age-wise, he ought to retire.”

I agree, but I am not a potential constituent of his, so it is not my business. What I would like to see is him, and other senior conservative politicians, mentor and support the next generation of conservative leaders, and help even younger aspiring conservative get a start in politics and public service.

“What is it about career politicians that they can’t just retire?”

Two things. 1) Power; it is addicting. Once one wields it, one never wants to yield it. 2) Many a career politician has done things they do NOT want anyone to know about, nor do they want to be held accountable for; if they retire and are out of office, they can’t cover their … tracks … anymore.

I’ll contribute to the Republican that runs against him. He recused from the Russian investigation, which did not preclude him from other aspects of his job. He could have begun an investigation of the Hitlery crimes, which would have pulled in Comey (using personal email), Obama (emails to Clinton on her private server), which would link to Mueller and the rest of the criminal cabal. He was derelict in his duty. Should be a RICO investigation into all of these criminals.

He was a god senator. He and Ted Cruz co-sponsored a bill to suspend H-1B visas indefinitely. Sessions had a solid voting record.

Trump should probably have left him in the Senate rther than making him AG.
