Election Consolidates One-Party Control Over State Legislatures
The Racist NYT ^ | y Adam Nagourney and Sydney Ember Nov. 7, 2018

Posted on 11/09/2018 1:02:07 AM PST by 11th_VA

In a stark display of the nation’s divide, the lower and upper chamber of every legislature but one — Minnesota — will be controlled by the same party following Tuesday’s midterm elections. It will be the first time in 104 years that only one state will have a divided legislature.

That emerging political dynamic has potentially serious policy implications. Without a divided government, these single-party state houses are in a position to enact legislation at a time when Washington faces a new round of gridlock after Democrats captured the House and Republicans expanded their control of the Senate.

The political lineup of the legislatures came into focus as the Democrats captured control of seven statehouse chambers on Tuesday, a relatively weak showing that left Republicans dominant in an overwhelming majority of state governments. By contrast, Republicans seized more than 20 statehouse chambers from Democrats in the critical 2010 midterm elections, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

“These were not big numbers relative to history,” Mr. Storey said Wednesday.

Going into Tuesday’s elections, Republicans controlled both chambers of the Legislature in 32 states, while Democrats controlled both chambers in 14 states. Three states were divided, and Nebraska has a unicameral, nonpartisan legislature.

With the election results, the Republican Party will control both houses in 30 states, while Democrats will hold complete control in 18 states.

(Snip)

Republicans dismissed the Democratic gains in the statehouses, noting how modest they were and that Republicans held onto legislative majorities in crucial states like Florida, Michigan and Wisconsin.

(Snip)

... states where Democrats flipped chambers on Tuesday were all states Ms. Clinton won in 2016. For Democrats, he said, it was a “disappointing night given all the spending and hype.”

"With the election results, the Republican Party will control both houses in 30 states, while Democrats will hold complete control in 18 states."

Looks like geographical lines between two parties are coming into focus in time.

A lot of places will be doing that. The problem is, when people leave, to escape the mess, they bring their liberal BS with them. The way I see it, most of your Conservatives in places like NY, can’t pick up and leave. Their jobs keep them there until they reach the age to collect their pensions, ie cops, firemen, tradesmen.

The salespeople, IT folks, financial folks, marketing, etc can pack their stuff, move and not miss a paycheck. They’re the ones, that to me at least, tend to lean to the Left, if not more so.

Well, when we pack our bags and leave this mess, we’ll be taking our VERY conservative politics with us.

I packed my bags in 95. Didn’t really think much about my political leanings until I arrived in Georgia. And, I would welcome you, your VERY Conservative politics and thousands more like you, every day, all day.

One more reason to overturn the 17th Amendment.

However, we are looking at NH.

Our kids are in the NE area, one in NH and one in ME.

My life doesn’t live and die by the decisions of the state..

The taxes are better, the quality of life is fine.

And I love Manhattan

I know folks who grow up with cows and trees and picnics at the local church may find it overwhelming.

But I love all it has to offer.

Have a good day

States are where conservatives should be consolidating and expanding their political power. Instead, they fire all their political power at Washington DC in a useless attempt to affect change.

Here’s a little secret - the courts have recognized states as sovereigns, meaning the federal government can’t trample the rights of states to self-govern. Read Mack/Printz v US to understand what the courts are saying.

This was a 10th amendment case ruled in favor of state sovereignty. Read the synopsis here -

https://www.oyez.org/cases/1996/95-1478

This is an opening for states to roll back the power of the federal fascist government. Learn and use it.

The moderate gray area between Republicans and Democrats is disappearing. Like a zygote dividing we are becoming two countries. The smartest way to go for Republicans is to call a rump Congress in some Midwest location and vote to Expulse the Blue States for high crimes and unconstitutional actions such as creating sanctuary cities and states and ignoring and violating Federal Law. And they don’t get to keep the whole states. Instead the red counties are kept as a new state or merged with an existing state. A blue state like Illinois would then exist as a red state and the Chicago counties would be expulsed.
Once separated tariffs can be applied to goods and services provided by the reconstituted United States and the Expulsed blue Cities and States. If it is made onerous enough the illegals will return to their countries shrinking the population problem.

Nebraska has just one chamber instead of the usual two - they’re officially elected “non-partisan.”
