I have an uncle who has the ultimate horror movie story about ladders.

He was doing some work on the gutters of his home. His kids were grown and out of the house. His wife was out running errands so he was home alone. He fell from the ladder and broke both of his ankles.

He lives out in the boonies a ways so no neighbor was within audible screaming distance. He crawled on his belly, dragging himself along for TWO HOURS before he was able to get back in the house and call 911.

Ever since that happened to him I refuse to get on a ladder if nobody else is home. At a bare minimum you must have a cell phone in your pocket.
