Happened to the mother of a friend of mine. She was over 90 and doing OK until she fell and broke her arm. Her bones at that age were so brittle she didn’t heal well. She could no longer use her walker and had to go into a nursing home. She went downhill rather quickly and died after that.

Should never have been conformed. . .

It was the Republicans who "confirmed" her without a modicum of disagreement. I think the vote was 98-2. Compare that to the "vetting" the Dems give our nominees.

I think, at her age, there is an enhanced risk of pneumonia with this type of injury.

And the No 1 cause of death in Seniors is pneumonia.

Have you watched the new season of HOC? I’m impressed that Claire can carry the show.

- -

Have not watched the final season yet. That actress Robin Wright plays the role well. She comes across as beautiful, cold, and deadly.

“And you’re happy at the possible end result. That she will retire.”

You’re right. I swear.

Yes...the Santa Barbara Observer (creditability unknown) reported her as saying in late Sept. she would retire in January for reoccurring health reasons, separate from this. That pretty much makes it a lock.

Pelosi, Schiff, Walters, Nadler aside, the republic may be safe.

I pray for her retirement and her healing.

considering her confirmation was just a few years after the clarence thomas circus, you are correct

for too long, the conservatives have “played nice” with the left. they want us all dead. we want to continue to extend olive branches.

A hospital can be a very deadly place for someone in the eighties.

"That’s a very painful injury. Won’t say anything other than hope she is doing okay."

Very painful. Especially if you cough or sneeze. Thank goodness she didn't break her hip - that's a hard one to come back from at her age. prayers out.

She must have taken quite a fall to break ribs.

She's in her 80's, frail, and may be fighting off cancer again. I doubt it would take much of a fall cause this.

“Terribly painful, and I was 17. 85? I can’t imagine.”

I fell from a ladder less than six weeks before my seventy third birthday and suffered a compression fracture of my first lumbar vertebra, a fractured pinky toe on my left foot and all kinds of other injuries from head to toe. I was back on my feet in two minutes or less unassisted. A neighbor drove me to the emergency room and I walked from the car to the front door unassisted. After multiple X-rays I was released with only a “buddy brace” which is a piece of tape holding the fractured pinky toe to the next toe, No back brace or anything of that sort. I took no pain medication except one pill that night because my wife convinced me I would not sleep otherwise, I took one more pain pill the next day and then no more. Had the same thing happened when I was 21 I would not even have attempted to get back on my feet, would have waited for an ambulance and would probably have taken pain medicine for six months. As it was my blood pressure ran high for months and I had to REFUSE blood pressure medication because my primary care doctor said she did not believe that my trauma was causing my increased blood pressure, my sister in law who has decades in nursing told me to ignore the doctor. My blood pressure returned to normal months later when I finished healing. Can’t speak for others but I seem to handle pain far, far better at 74 than I did at 24 or 17.

Older women have brittle bones. If she fell and hit her side on a mohagany desk or chairback she could easily have three fractures. Unforunately there is only rest and torso restriction as a cure.

Being conservative, we wish her a speedy recovery. We also wish she retire and enjoy whatever friends and family she has in the time she has left. We also wish her the mental clarity to do what’s right. I doubt any of this will happen as she appears to be too far gone.

I have to put politics aside here and agree with you.
I’m 73 and have fallen twice in the last two years.
One pretty much destroyed my left RC .

Get well soon Ruth, think about retirement while you do.

I recommend everyone goes to DU today and reads the multiple threads yesterday and today talking about getting violent with us.

Even when they are doing better than expected, they are violent losers.
