CIA's ‘surveillance state’ is operating against us all
The Hill ^ | 11/05/18 | Sharyl Attkisson

Maybe you once thought the CIA wasn’t supposed to spy on Americans here in the United States.

That concept is so yesteryear.

Over time, the CIA upper echelon has secretly developed all kinds of policy statements and legal rationales to justify routine, widespread surveillance on U.S. soil of citizens who aren’t suspected of terrorism or being a spy.

The latest outrage is found in newly declassified documents from 2014. They reveal the CIA not only intercepted emails of U.S. citizens but they were emails of the most sensitive kind — written to Congress and involving whistleblowers reporting alleged wrongdoing within the Intelligence Community.

Some see the intel community’s alleged abuses during campaign 2016 as its own major scandal. But I see it as a crucial piece of a puzzle.

The evidence points to bad actors targeting candidate Donald Trump and his associates in part to keep them — and us — from learning about and digging into an even bigger scandal: our Intelligence Community increasingly spying on its own citizens, journalists, members of Congress and political enemies.

Kills me to say it, but Frank Church was probably right.

The corrupt CIA is overworked. One must realize how hard it is to manage all the drugs they bring into our country.

Hey, the Rats just dumped Dave Brat with one of their Ops girls, so she should be working hard to implement the Commie Surveillance state - meaning they get to look at anyone that bugs them.

And if you criticize it, they’ll target you!

Just like Comey and the gang at the other crooked agency.

So when is that swamp going to be drained?

That started with the Clintons during the ‘90s. They hired many more women into offices (feminism) and took the emphasis away from field spying for our military forces.

"So when is that swamp going to be drained?"

When the President has a Republican majority Congress again, now that some of the trashier few Republicans have quit.

Yes sir, it is way past time to dismantle the CIA, and the other 16 (un)intelligence agencies. Start over by recruiting and restricting the power of spying and interfering to foreign countries, controlling activity totally by Congress. Restrict the FBI to cases on Federal land, and shrink the power of the Federal government in the process.

I have seen interesting proposals to collect intelligence via “crowd sourcing”. Using modern tools to collect information, and needing analysts to analyze.

"When the President has a Republican majority"

Rather, when the President has a conservative non deep state majority. One thing we've learned over the last 5 years is that just because a pol has an "R" next to his name doesn't mean they're on our side.

Good article. Opaque operatives from the oppressive state. A cancerous growth inside the body politic.

DEFUND/DISMANTLE many agencies. We made it a lot of years without them.

The CIA sent one of their own to take out Dave Brat in revenge for stopping the 2014 amnesty attempt by taking out the weasel Eric Cantor.

The more we learn the more people like Alex Jones seem to be less crazy and more sane.

Maybe there is something to the old adage that “knowing too much makes you crazy in the eyes of others”

I used to dislike Frank Church, until I read a little more about him. He was an intelligence officer in the army in World War II. The dude was a common sense Patriot and he saw a budding national security surveillance state. Unfortunately when he helped create FISA, it was intended as a method to keep a tight rein on the CIA. They managed to turn it into a secret court system to legalize and hide their wrongdoing. I know a lot of people don’t agree, but in 50 or 60 years people will speak of the CIA the way we speak of the Gestapo or the SS today. Absolute enemies of freedom and the American government as designed by our founders.

It didn’t just start with the clintons. It started when they had JFK assassinated, with LSD experiments on unwitting people, with Mena Arkansas... The CIA has been corrupt from day one. Truman said he had created a Gestapo like organization that had exceeded its mandate and needed to be reigned in.
