9 Years Into Common Core, Test Scores Are Down, Indoctrination Up
The Federalist ^ | November 5, 2018 | Joy Pullmann

Common Core sucked all the energy, money, and motivation right out of desperately needed potential reforms to U.S. public schools for a decade, and for nothing.

It’s been about nine years since the Obama administration lured states into adopting Common Core sight unseen, with promises it would improve student achievement. Like President Obama’s other big promises — “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” — this one’s been proven a scam.

“If you set and enforce rigorous and challenging standards and assessments; if you put outstanding teachers at the front of the classroom; if you turn around failing schools — your state can win a Race to the Top grant that will not only help students outcompete workers around the world, but let them fulfill their God-given potential,” President Obama said in July 2009.

But that wasn’t the real objective of Common Core! It was the effective indoctrination of our children into the “dependency mold” of the RAT Party. The coal was to make our kids dependent on the government, and from the look of it, they’ve succeeded.

True. My jaw always drops when I hear the utter inanities and ignorance coming from millennials and their progeny. I think it has to be a contrived stunt, but no.

That started in 2009 under the Oblanko administration. States were bribed to adopt it. A corrupt administration feeding corrupt state governments cash.

The YOOTS confined to the American School “system?” are being ROBBED of the basic foundation of learning and knowledge that the “olde tyme” American School system injected into little heads.
Could the U.S.A. have prevailed in WWII with the products of the high schools and universities of today? Tragically...NO!!
I believe that the ELDERLY of today were required to pass tests for entry into High School that today’s college graduates could barely, if at all, receive a passing grade.

It’s way more tragic than can be stated. There is no going back as we only have one chance to educate kids. Playing political games - literally, as this was sold as a contest wherein the states that adopted CC and did better got more grant money - is a tragic mistake. CC was not much different that Solyndra or even Obamacare, billed as revolutionary but really just a boondoggle for those on the inside to grab piles of taxpayer cash.

Now we have teachers cheating, and ‘teaching the test’ as they say, instead of teaching kids how to learn.

Maybe in the near future this will break the back of the teacher’s lobby and we’ll move towards a voucher system. Privatized schools that compete will be more efficient, have higher teacher salaries, and do a better job overall as they will be forced to sell their services to parents based on their results rather than forcing kids into schools based on their street address. Ironically the current method is regressive and arguably racist if not just classist but you don’t hear Democrats talk about it much. The African American community gets it, though.

You are right. I picked wrong headline.

“Although they only recently captured national attention, the Common Core standards – which lay out what students should know and be able to do by each grade – have been in the works since at least 2008. It all started with former Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, who was the 2006-07 chair of the National Governors Association”

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
