Look to Milton: Open borders and the welfare state (3 min read, old but relevant )
The Heritage Foundation ^ | 2007 | Robert Rector

The grant of citizenship is a transfer of political power. Access to the U.S. ballot box also provides access to the American taxpayer's bank account. This is particularly problematic with regard to low-skill immigrants. Within an active redistributionist state, as Friedman understood, unlimited immigration can threaten limited government.

“Many libertarians respond to this dilemma by asserting that the real problem is not open borders but the welfare state itself. The answer: dismantle the welfare state. The libertarian Cato Institute pursues a variant of this policy under the slogan, “build a wall around the welfare state, not around the nation.” Borders should be open, but immigrants should be barred from accessing welfare and other benefits.”

You cannot have open borders and a welfare state.

September 11, 2001 should have quashed that open borders notion forever. Every one of the 19 attackers was here legally.

The welfare state is a factor, but not the only factor.

I simply oppose open borders. I care about language and culture and societal norms. I care about sovereignty. I don’t think it’s OK for millions of people to just slip into the US even if they won’t be relying on the welfare state.

Open borders are wrong.

An open borders Welfare State is a national suicide pact.

We should hammer it all day long. Liberals you can have immigration if you roll back the welfare state.

Add in some mediscare and social security frights about dilution of benefits and the battle is won.

“build a wall around the welfare state, not around the nation.”

I would rather we, “build a wall around the welfare state, and around the nation.”

THE MEANING OF THE KEY PHRASE IN THE 14th AMENDMENT
President Trump is SPOT-ON. He CAN halt BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP with an Executive Order. It WILL NOT require amending the Constitution!
PLEASE SHARE this information. We’d better halt the ignorance out there BEFORE the left DESTROYS AMERICA!
The INTENT of the drafters and the MEANING of those key words “...and subject to the jurisdiction thereof...” is crystal clear!
From the debate notes surrounding the enactment of the 14th Amendment at this site:https://www.numbersusa.com/content/learn/ethics-population-and-immigration/fourteenth-amendment-debate.html

“The jurisdiction requirement was added to the original draft of the Fourteenth Amendment by the Senate after a lengthy and acrimonious debate. In fact, Senator Jacob Merritt Howard of Michigan proposed the addition of the phrase specifically because he wanted to make clear that the simple accident of birth in the United States was not sufficient to justify citizenship. Sen. Howard noted that the jurisdiction requirement is “simply declaratory of what I regard as the law of the land already.” Sen. Howard said that “this will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons.”

Well said.

Even if they are not receiving benefits paid by the taxpayer, (and anyone here will not be denied them if it is up to federal ,state or local government progressives) they will bring their developing nation social problems with them and there will inevitably be an increase in criminal activity if they aren't being fed, clothed, housed and educated on the taxpayer's dime. The black market issues in Latin America will be our problem, whether we like it or not. they will be making money somehow, legal or otherwise and suddenly the issues with illegal drugs will spike to new highs.

Even if they aren't directly receiving benefits they will put a strain on public education, utilities, highways, public transport, as well as police and fire protection. We will have tent cities and shanty towns all over the country, not just in the Republic of Mexifornia with additional public health risks to US citizens.

A nation without borders will soon no longer be a recognizable nation.
