From my experience, they would find everything they want from the US simply by going to Costa Rica. I wonder why the caravan did not decide to do this?

All stated has been pretty much my take on the situation and along the way and how I see the people and have heard those who have been interviewed etc. as well.

What could these people have accomplished and could have accomplished had they gathered like this in mass before their government demanding what they instead are demanding of the US???

Sadly and as you have stated ....they want it now with no thought to the future people of their country nor the familes still there.

I cannot find any empathy for their plight when they could have done this before their own government.

I am American, but have lived abroad quite a long time. My experience is a corollary to yours.

Even in the poorest countries I have been to - normal people do not want to leave their homes, to break the law in the United States. Normal people worry about their parents, children, brothers and sisters and don’t abandon their families. Normal people in even the poorest countries do the best to live a normal life at home. Normal people even in the poorest countries do not want to be stateless or live in the shadows of another country. In sum - NORMAL PEOPLE DO NOT BECOME ILLEGAL MIGRANTS. ONLY ABNORMAL PEOPLE AND CRIMINALS DO.
