Mattis: Military moving equipment to border ahead of migrant caravan
The Washington Times ^

PRAGUE — The U.S. military has already begun delivering jersey barriers to the southern border in conjunction with plans to deploy active duty troops there, U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Sunday as a caravan of Central Americans slowly heads across Mexico toward the United States.

Mattis told reporters traveling with him that details of the deployment are still being worked out but he should have them Sunday night. They will include exactly how many forces are needed.

The additional troops will provide logistical and other support to the Border Patrol, and will bolster the efforts of the approximately 2,000 National Guard forces already there. The new forces are expected to provide logistical assistance such as air support and equipment, including vehicles and tents.

National Guard troops routinely perform those same functions, so it is not clear why active duty forces are being used.

President Donald Trump for the past week has been calling attention to the caravan heading by foot into southern Mexico, but it is still hundreds of miles from U.S. soil.

I believe Mattis is engaging in some diversionary activity here.

Mattis eschews telling the press - or the enemy - any specifics. Remember when he responded to a press inquiry about how we are doing against ISIS with "We're winning, they're losing."

I would wager that while there MAY be some such activity, the REAL military activity is still under wraps.

I was thinking..(?) Does the President or the Governor have controlling power over the Guard.??

The Governor until the President federalize them, and then they are controlled by the President.

By international law, they were obligated to seek asylum (if that is what in fact they truly wanted) the moment they stepped foot in a non-hostile country. Mexico offered them asylum, and they refused. By that action the United States government is under no legal obligation to grant asylum to these invaders.

And since Mexico is actually aiding and abetting their invasion, we ought declare war on Mexico - and annihilate them. I’m sick of this sh*t, and - if I had my way - Mexico would be a smoldering glowing pile of radioactive ash.

No, I think Trump is serious about this and will not allow unarmed National Guard troops to be killed by drug lords during this.

National Guard can be nationalized and there is no issue with chain of command. But the issue is reliable experienced soldiers who are already up to speed.

I assure you the the Governor of Texas is already cooperating with the active military. And expect AZ is same way. Not sure about NM. Of course CA will be nutty as always. That is why the convoy is targeting CA. But CA is still a long way away. McAllen, TX is much closer. Texas will not allow it being over run.

If we can no longer trust our elected leaders or military to defend our nation...

Then we need to replace our political and military leaders.

A bunch of disorganized citizen volunteers at the border will not be effective. The invasion force is organized and sustained by full-time paid professionals who know what they are doing. And the have the backing of the Mexican Government and the Narco-Cartels to enforce what they are doing.

This will require bloodshed to stop and it would be best to be on the Mexican side of the border. Only our regular Army has enough power to do that. Our political leaders clearly do not have the will to do that.

This will require arrests and criminal prosecution of the backers and funders of this invasion force, to the extent they can be found in the United States. Our political leaders clearly do not have the will to do that.

This will require economic sanctions against Mexico, to include tariffs, remittance taxes, and arbitrary border closures. Our political leaders clearly do not have the will to do that (though we are hearing a lot of harsh talk from them on that subject).

This will require forcible deportations of thousands of people who are presently inside this country giving support to the invaders. Our political leaders clearly do not have the will to do that (too many illegals are already voting)

Patience. I’m sure the planning has been underway for a long time. The final plan is fluid because of the changing threat itself.

Yes, there is a way to stop them - regular American citizens, armed to the teeth, head to the border, and open up hell on these MOFUs.

>>To hell with the legal consequences

Careful here. White hats have been pretry clever so far to defeat midterm political stunts and dirty tricks (now bloody tricks) so far. See Kavanaugh, stormy, saudi guy, etc. But one or two meaty atrocities by citizens could end with Trump gone thus winter, 2nd ammendment castrated then eliminated soon, rat control of it all, all deep state abusers crimes sanctified, voters soured on MAGA/KAGA and EU style control of our economy, society, borders, education and healthcare. Obama UN chairman, Hillary as something powerful and creepy, etc.
The military has Trump’s back and will defend our sovereignty, I trust. For now.

Thanks for explanation. I suspected something like that but was not sure if it was regular construction barriers or something special that we already have in the military system.

"How about sending in Abrams main battle tanks, artillery pieces, 50 cal machine gun placements, and landmines? You want to stop these invaders? Mow down about 2000 of them, and the rest will literally sh*t their pants, and run like rabbits back to their own countries. "

DITTO!

"Perhaps regular American citizens - well armed and with sufficient ammunition, should man the border."

Yeah...I was thinking maybe someone should call up the "Militia."

This is just stupid.(if true) Toss sugar in their gas tank, slash tires on the trucks, etc... It not like this caravan is a secret.

its not fair to personalize what should be a typical function of government, ie, controlling immigration. The real question should be: “Where is so called ‘law enforcement’?” Asleep while 15 MILLION illegals are here.

“Politics as usual isn’t going to work.”

Correcto. There is now a far left President of MX that is active participant in this.

Trump is still Trump and POTUS of the US.

A young female working through the wire, would you personally pull the trigger? A child?

Of course not and that is more than a knee jerk option. The imposition of Martial law in the entire border area will suspend the constitutional question of amnesty/asylum which the horde has no right to demand after rejecting Mexico's offers. That would allow immediate removal back over the border of illegal entrants. Pictures, fingerprints, dna swab and holding area till there is a bus load to transport them back over the border. The more militant vatos like the ones pictured in 90% if photos like the ones that tore down the Guat/Mexican border fence forced their way in can be handled with equal force. Hopefully there are arrangements and many many more personnel a few miles back of the border so when a large breach and flood like the Mexican bridge happens they can be stopped, detained and removed. That will take a buttload of troops and police when a couple thousand come in a bunch.
