Why can't the European Union let individual countries decide whether to ban straws? (I oppose a ban.) It looks like the only freedom the Left supports is buggery.

Hi, reaganaut1-
It’s all about the power. Seeing which folks crumble like cookies and which folks have to be worked with...pressured, threatened, and the like....

Change the packaging:
“Plastic plates: Now washable! Good for multiple uses!!”
Straws might be problematic, but you could also push them as washable, if you had to.

The source of the ocean plastic problem is China, India, Africa, and certain countries.
Western nations take responsibility for their trash.

Got to wonder reaganaut1,
This means going to the use of steel as it’s a cheaper form of usage. China and bamboo or other woods are to expensive and untenable in the long use. This means running steel mills and using a lot more water for cleansing and steam for drying.
Unless they’re going to try to force (ahem...influence) folks to carry a set of implements with them.
Can you imagine what damage could be done during a fight with the wrong crowds??? And if a knife is used from a place to maim/kill someone would the business then be held liable for the usage of the knife or fork in the crime? Tantalizing questions.... LOL

The EU are SOCIALISTS. Taking rights away from the people and placing CONTROL in the government, is what they do.
Shows how bankrupt socialists are.

The EU is on a slow march back to the stone age. They've already imported the savages and pagan religion. They are working on eliminating coal and electricity and shivering in the dark just like back in “the good old days”. And as in the third world, they'll soon be drinking their soy juice from a tin cup chained to a vendor's street cart, the cup carelessly wiped out with an old rag after each customer.

And they’re making that mandatory.

Maybe they will go back to using the paper straws that were around when I was a kid. They were great! Most of the time they wilted before you could finish your milkshake. Just Great!!!

Why not just ban take-out food? Eat it there or at home. Just kidding. But doesn’t the energy and water required to wash the dishes sort of offset the environmental impact of so called single use plastics?
