Retired Justice Sandra Day O'Connor revealed in a letter on Tuesday that she has been diagnosed with the "beginning stages of dementia, probably Alzheimer's disease."

"I will continue living in Phoenix, Arizona surrounded by dear friends and family," she wrote and added, "While the final chapter of my life with dementia may be trying, nothing has diminished my gratitude and deep appreciation for the countless blessings of my life."

I thought the evil witch had it whenvshe was on the court and said US courts should consider FOREIGN court decisions in rendering decisions involving the US constitution.

Reagan had Alzheimer’s. Once you get it, its a slow decline until you’re gone.

Not surprised to hear it about O’Connor. Prayers for her and her family and friends.

Yes, this is a terrible way to make your exit, as any of us who have every seen a loved one struggle with it well know.

I will always regard her as one of Ronald Reagan’s worst mistakes, but will pray for her and for her family.

Sad to hear, watched my mom go through it. The time that really killed me was the first time she didn’t recognize me.

I didn’t always agree with Justice O’Connor, but she was the first female Justice. Appointed by President Reagan, I guess that was part of “the Republican war on women.”

Compared to the three “women” now on the Court, O’Connor was a model of civility and insightfulness. Her path to success was more difficult than any of these three.

It is very sad and I’m glad she will stay in Phoenix as her sons reside here.

I used to work with her niece back in the early ‘80’s and got to know her sons.

Dementia/Alzheimer’s is so hard on everyone.

Why did Reagan appoint her again?

He made a campaign promise that his appointee would have a vagina. One of the Gipper's worst flubs IMHO.

Was not her that said that. Justice Beyer was the one who said that. That should be ground for impeachment of that clown

There are a couple on the SCOTUS that are probably further advanced than she is.

That and pulling the Marines out of Lebanon after the car bombing. That sent the signal to all of the Osama Bin Laden types that he US could be pushed around.
