FULL TITLE: Former MI6 spy Christopher Steele, who compiled controversial dossier, breaks silence to criticize Trump

Former MI6 spy Christopher Steele, who compiled controversial dossier, breaks silence to criticize Trump originally appeared on abcnews.go.com

The former British intelligence officer who wrote the explosive dossier alleging links between the Donald Trump campaign and Russian officials has broken an 18-month silence to criticize the governance of the U.S. president, though not by name.

Writing to Vanity Fair magazine after he was included in their 2018 New Establishment List, Christopher Steele called on the media to "speak unpalatable truths to power" and to hold the government of the United States to account.

Writing to editor Radhika Jones in an email seen by ABC News, he said: "In these strange and troubling times, it is hard to speak unpalatable truths to power, but I believe we all still have a duty to do so. I salute those on your list, and otherwise, who have had the courage to speak out over the last year, often at great personal cost.

"At a time when governance is so distorted and one-sided, as I believe it currently is in the United States, the media has a key role to play in holding it accountable," he added.

Bi-partisan, even-handed, unbiased, reliable source for a domestic spying operation against political opponents, don’t you think?

This is the Leftist way.

Double down. Triple down. Ride the stern of the Titanic into the water.

Reading his comments reminds me of the sanctimonious testimony of Peter Strzok.

Vanity Fair. Condé Nast. Advance Publications.

Interesting that Steele wrote to the rag. No interview required, eh?

I don’t know about breaking his silence, but breaking his knees sounds like a better course.

Was disgraced former MI6 spy Christopher Steele ever credible? He was fired by the FBI for failure to follow a signed contract. His work has been discredited, that is proven false. He appears to be a paid partisan hack for Hillary Clinton.

Has he testified under oath on US soil?

Is he coming out now with attacks on our President a part of a wide, left wing conspiracy to garnish support favoring the Democrats in the coming mid term elections? Will there be more left leaning announcements by the Democrats?

It is a certain personality type who seems to be drawn to these jobs. A chilling thought as those agencies actually DO have serious responsibilities to protect us.

clearly Steele is resigned to the fact he will never step foot in the US again.

Of course...that is always their “fall back” defense, after they break every damned law they then attempt to justify it with their good intentions, because hey, they are heroes.

Hey, if you haven't seen this, it is a thread I started last month that has a music video called "Trumperland" (1:43 long) that is hilarious...you would appreciate it, because in the video, they have all those people you mentioned and many more being arrested with Trump as the key arresting person chasing them down...:)

Trumperland!"

They did a really funny job of taking clips from various movies (such as "The Departed" and "Wolf of Wall Street") and then somehow putting Trump's face on one of the arresting people, and all the perps faces (Comey, Brennan, Hillary, Clapper, Mueller, Mccabe, et al) on the video of a person being arrested!

Honestly, I think it is one of the most enjoyable and funny videos, and the song is a very conservative bent with the lyrics, and a catchy, hard edged tune, too.

Buckeye McFrog, to me, that is one of the most unsettling part of this unbelievable scandal, that we HAVE to entrust people with responsibility, and we have been shown that our public servants are not deserving or capable of our trust.

The famous John Adams quote comes to mind:

"...Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other...”

It is eminently and blazingly clear that the people behind these abuses of power are neither religious nor moral. And I, along with many others, made the mistake of allowing them to be entrusted with it, feeling that the safeguards put in place (FISA requirements, etc) were adequate enough, if observed, to protect us.

They are not adequate/observed/protective, and either the safeguards need to be fixed/observed and violations severely punished with extensive prison sentences, or the ability to surveil removed entirely.

I am in the camp now, that these surveillance abilities as applied to US citizens ought to be completely removed. Will it mean more terrorism? Perhaps. But I would rather deal with the terrorism attacks than continue unabated down the road of a Police State surveillance-wise that rivals East Germany during the cold war.

or said another way. We can be safe or free.
