Counseling and support seem to be a big part of it. There are similar principles involved with veterans, in that major factors in suicides are generally financial stress, relationship stress, and/or substance abuse.
Some of the article, however, seemed to be saying that government could fix it so that farming isn’t inherently risky and stressful, which is pretty fanciful.
The article was just asking for funding for counselors. Losing farmers is more expensive. We have a farmer shortage AND a counselor shortage. Especially counselors at the VA. As I asked in a previous post, I wonder how many farmers are vets? double whammy?
