Red wave? Not so fast, Republicans
The Hill ^ | 10/07/18 10:00 AM EDT | DOUGLAS SCHOEN, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR

Many Republicans believe that the Senate vote to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court will shift the tide of a blue wave and increase Republican enthusiasm as we approach the November midterm elections. There is, however, a stronger chance that Democrats will benefit the most, politically, from the confirmation of a new justice.

Indeed, Democrats will make significant gains among female voters who are deeply troubled with the way that Senate Republicans handled the very serious and very credible allegation of sexual assault made against Justice Kavanaugh by Christine Blasey Ford in her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Given this momentum, Democrats not only will consolidate their lead on winning back the House, but the gravity of this confirmation will narrow multiple Senate races as well.

ADVERTISEMENT To be sure, it has become almost an article of political faith on the right for the last two weeks that the confirmation of Justice Kavanaugh would lead to an increase in enthusiasm among Republicans. Indeed, based on idiosyncratic evidence, it would appear that that has happened. However, the Republican momentum we see today is unlikely to be sustained for the entirety of the next month. In fact, it would directly conflict with the more favorable turnout projections we have observed for Democrats for the better part of the past two years.

let’s face it, most women have brothers, sons, cousins, fathers, etc., that they would hate to see on the receiving end of unsubstantiated charges. Sure, the militant, fanatical anti-Kavanaugh left-wing women will turn out to vote, but the dems already had a lock on them.

I'm not going to predict a red wave or blue wave.

I will predict individual elections will be closer than some Republicans want to believe.

Trump supporters are fired up because he keeps winning.

Democrats are fired up because Trump keeps winning.

Will enthusiasm for Trump cinch the deal or will Democrats' anger rally the troops?

Don't take an election for granted.

To some degree, just from human psychology, this may be true - since we got what we wanted, the intensity will dim a little bit, but they will remain incensed and fired up from not getting what they wanted... they certainly seem very impassioned right now... As Scott Adams says, we will either have Kavanaugh or a Red Wave but not both...

VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! Vote like the polls are right and we're ten points behind.

But most importantly, reach out to the people are aren't posting about politics on Twitter, Facebook, and Free Republic and get them to vote.

Those are the people we need to motivate.

Considering that half the population are male and all them had mothers, women should be very concerned about the treatment of Kavanugh by the Democrats. It could be your sons who are falsely accused with no opportunity to defend themselves. The Democrat party is the party of mob rule.

They’re not even that fired up, tbh.

Those paid for 200 Soros funded protestors do not a movement make.

If the R’s didn’t get Kavanaugh through it would have totally demoralized us because we are, after all, the majority in the senate.

Also, um...voting has been going on in a lot of states during this fiasco.

A Democrat House would turn into the Mueller investigation on steroids.

I imagine America will tire of that very quickly.
