GOP lawmaker reports 'threatening' Twitter messages to police

Rep. Mark Walker's (R-N.C.) office said this week that it reported Twitter messages from a supporter of his Democratic opponent to Capitol Police to investigate.

Staff for Walker, the chairman of the powerful Republican Study Committee, said they asked for Capitol Police to investigate after the North Carolina Republican’s campaign received continuous threatening messages from a supporter of his Democratic opponent.

The person behind the tweets – which included the "bomb" emoji and an attempt to track down information about the congressman’s daughter’s school and whether it was public or private – was identified as Andrew Cabaccang, a Montana-based man who previously resided in Raleigh, The News and Observer reported.

"Following weeks of threatening bombing references, attempts to locate the school Walker’s daughter attends, and mentions of his family and home address, our staff submitted the messages to Capitol Police,” Walker campaign spokesman Jack Minor said in a statement.

“Capitol Police found the threat credible enough to warrant a visit. Following the assessment, Walker was made aware of the threat.”

Deputies from Montana’s Sanders County Sheriff’s Office reportedly paid Cabaccang a visit on Sept. 19.

The man criticized Walker's office for filing the police report, questioning why the congressman wouldn't first report him to Twitter or block him on the platform.

“It’s just petty, petty, petty. I know I didn’t do anything wrong,” Cabaccang told the News & Observer.

Minor noted the staff’s call to investigate the comments came in the wake of the shooting at a GOP baseball practice in the summer of 2017, which left House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) seriously wounded.

“After the 2017 shooting at a baseball practice for Republican members of Congress, the U.S. House sergeant at arms has reported an unprecedented increase in threats and has encouraged members and staff to show more caution,” he said.

Let’s see how “petty” it is serving time for felony harassment and threatening a public official. This moron needs a lesson in objective reality

No one will. It will be an unhappy process with an inevitably unhappy outcome. For everyone. Winners included.

Consequences and justice is extinct, so this behavior never ends unless we end it. That requires engagement, ROCKING the VOTE.

Be prepared to melt the CHILL that we are all experiencing to our freedom, our speech, our movements, etc.

Well, I’m willing to risk that. I’m willing to risk Hard Times and Rebuilding Years.

Socialism/Communism needs to be ground to DUST in America. If they want it so badly, there are PLENTY of Communist countries where they can live.

Why the DESIRE to DESTROY the BEST thing going for the entire WORLD? F-em! :)

They encourage them with calls to resist, and even get them into places on the hill they don’t belong to cause disruptions. This after Republican’s have been shot and physically attacked.

The media calls them “sexual assault survivors” this time, but usually make it seem they are average pissed off citizens that organically rise up to protest..ie glamourize them.
God forbid someone pushes back against them, then they’re labeld “FAR RIGHT” or “WHITE NATIONALIST”.

it’s like with Kavanaugh. He passionately defends himself against one of the worst concocted smear campaigns we’ve ever seen, and HIS temperament is called out.
We’re not even allowed to defend ourselves, in other words.

exactly. the ONLY way to stop this right now is to vote in November to keep these ghouls out of power. Even if they win a slim maj they will see it as a sign to go even harder with their violence and kaos. They won’t govern. There will be non stop “investigations” for two years.

Yes, as the old song goes “Montana, where everybody knows your name”. (Theme from “Cheers”).

Mr. Bangagong is going to find out what it’s like to be harassed, I’m sure. What goes round, comes round, and Montana is still a somewhat sane state despite Tester.

All of these people think that a threat via social media doesn’t count and no court will touch them. I think the legal system (especially in red states and via federal prosecutors) will catch up with them.

You could be talking about $20,000 in legal fees to get off some stupid threat statement with twelve words. Failing that, you could go and spend an entire year in some prison and regret ever having gotten all politicized.

Why do we need to start shooting leftists when we have state police and county sheriffs willing to enforce the law and send these leftists to state prison?
