BEIJING (Reuters) - China will cut import tariffs on textile products and metals, including steel products, to 8.4 percent from 11.5 percent, effective Nov. 1, the finance ministry said on Sunday.

One problem - the story does not indicate that these cuts will be on U.S. imports. In fact, it implies that the trade war with the U.S. will escalate. Not sure what to believe here, just yet.

A 3.1% token reduction on some subset of goods?
We can reciprocate by only raising tariffs 21.9% instead of 25% - but only on the exact same goods, or the same dollar volume of goods, which best serves our interests.
No more small measures - time for big fixes.
25% across the board on 1 January - then just let it sit for two years, while the Treasury rakes in billions, and businesses flood back into the USA.
Maybe China will pull it horns in a bit, from aggressing on our allies, when their budget tightens.

China has no desire to go to war with the USA in military terms. We would be hurt grievously and China would cease to exist. China has been at war with us for many years in economic terms. Oddly if you win the economic war you have defeated your enemy and need not fire one bullet. That is how Reagan destroyed the old Soviet Union.
Bush I, Clinton, and Bush II threw our great advantage in the garbage pile. Obama actively cooperated with Putin to our disadvantage and thus the whole damn mess the world in is today. Bush I, Clinton, Bush II and Obama are not men to be admired.
Trump understands all of this with precise reality.

These cuts are not “token” by any means. There is a 27% reduction here which is major by any measure.
