Rival rallies as Turkey’s Erdogan opens mega mosque in Cologne

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was to open one of Europe’s largest mosques in Cologne on Saturday as he wrapped up a controversial visit to Germany, with police deploying in force to manage the rival rallies.

The inauguration will mark the closing event of his three-day state visit, aimed at repairing frayed ties with Berlin after two years of tensions.

On the bank of the Rhine, demonstrators waved banners reading: “Erdogan not welcome”. Cansu, a 30-year-old student of Turkish origin, came from Switzerland to join the protest.

“I want to be the voice of people who can’t take to the streets in Turkey. Because they have been arrested, killed or otherwise suppressed. Erdogan thinks anything that differs from his opinion is terrorism.”

Tomas, a German student, turned up in a white suit splattered with fake blood. He and several others carried a giant banner that read “Dictator. Mass murderer”.

Erdogan supporters meanwhile gathered at the Cologne Central Mosque, an imposing dome-shaped building commissioned by the shadowy, Turkish-controlled Ditib organization.

Cologne police cordoned off a large area around the mosque for safety reasons, but thousands of Erdogan supporters spilled into closed-off side streets, eager for a glimpse of the Turkish leader.

Many waved Turkey’s red and white flag or held up pictures of Erdogan, with the crowd occasionally breaking into cheerful chants of "Who is the greatest? Turkey!"

Here are some refugees I’d welcome: hardworking, law-abiding German taxpayers who’ve had it with Germany and would like to become American citizens.

The Germans invited them in way back in the late 60s as ‘guest workers’ to do the work Germans would not. The Turks have poured into their new homeland ever since - until lately when the river became a torrent.

Give us your hard-working, over-taxed, terrorized masses yearning to breathe free.

Works for me.

Ever spent time in Europe? I have, though not in a while. Unless things have changed greatly, the folks who’d take advantage of the brain drain being unclogged would be last bunch to vote for more of why they left.

Erdogan quote:

“The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers...”

Stupid, stupid Germans.

And I think the recent passage of Articles 11 and 13 are scaring the cr@p out of a lot of Europeans.

And it should.

The folks fleeing from ****like that won’t vote for more.

Yup.
They went to work assembling BMW motorcycles in the 1960s.

A buddy stationed with the Army recalled seeing them on the line...

Here’s the latest about Erdogan, as reported by www.focus.de:

Turks outside Turkey are downloading and using an app developed by the Central Turkish police that allows them to report other Turks who criticize Erdogan or the Turkish government.

Apparently, there are a lot of Turks using it.
