Trump leads aggressive, all-out GOP drive to save Kavanaugh

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republicans mounted a combative, coordinated drive Monday to salvage Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination as they fought to keep a second woman's allegation of long-ago sexual misconduct from derailing his confirmation. President Donald Trump leapt to his defense, the top Senate Republican accused Democrats of a "smear campaign" and an emotional Kavanaugh pledged to fight for his nomination and proclaimed, "I've never sexually assaulted anyone."

That declaration, remarkable for a nominee to the nation's highest court, came as Republicans embraced their newly aggressive stance and Kavanaugh's prospects dangled precariously. The similar tones and wording they used in defending him suggested a concerted effort to undermine the women's claims and portray an image of unity among GOP senators while pressing toward a confirmation vote.

In the run-up to an appearance by Kavanaugh and his main accuser at a dramatic Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Trump called the accusations "totally political" and among "the single most unfair, unjust things to happen to a candidate for anything." Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., angrily accused Democrats of slinging "all the mud they could manufacture" and promised a full Senate vote soon, but specified no date.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., retorted that if McConnell believed the allegations were a smear, "Why don't you call for an FBI investigation?" Schumer accused Republicans of "a rush job to avoid the truth."

I also saw where we signed a trade pact with South Korea. Another win.

Also a small step to convince NK to de-nuke.

Excellent!

Republicans better wake up and support Trump and Kavenough and not let themselves be bamboozled by the Democrats.

The old playbook of accusing your opponents of what you yourself are doing. The Democrats, and only the Democrats, created this situation. The letter should have been turned over to the FBI in July and would have been part of his vetting. They chose not to do that - THEY didn't want the FBI to investigate or have it properly vetted - they wanted to use it for an ambush for purely partisan political reasons. Schumer is lying. Moreover, all of the witnesses are already on record under penalty of perjury they have no knowledge of such an incident occurring or denying it occurred - some saying they never even knew Judge Kavanaugh let alone attending a party with him, so this argument by Schumer is even more bogus.

Kavanaugh is a man of honor, and it shows! Is there not one decent democrat in the whole lot of them? Will none stand up for decency and a civil society?

Shame on you all.

Kavanaugh’s honor is on display, and no lie will stand the test of time against it. These red state democrats may not be the no-vote their leadership imagines....

Hold the vote!

Republicans need to stand firm and not cave any further. Ms Ford will be a no show on Thursday. They need to then vote to confirm on Thursday.

If they do not confirm Judge K. they can start planning on serving the new leadership in the Senate. They will not be treated nice by them or us.

to salvage Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination

This isn't about K's nomination. This is about salvaging the future of these weak-kneed sellouts so that we can save our country from the neo-Bolsheviks. Yes, what they have allowed to happen to K from their continued invertebrate behavior is an abomination.

FINALLY!!!! Good grief, what’s with capitulating?? She’s controlling the whole thing - where, when, how, even whether it’s ‘mean’ or we ‘get’ to be on the offense. Why would anyone go along with her? Drives me nuts.

Show ‘em how it’s done, Mr. President. The feminists wouldn’t vote for you for a million years anyway; only 25% of women even believe her (we know better); she should get a lawyer and have a trial if she really has the goods - which she hasn’t.

Is there not one decent democrat in the whole lot of them?

I know the above is a rhetorical question with the obvious answer as "NO". But I wonder how many people actually expect there to be someone of honor on the left?

“The only real question is will all the Republican Senators vote to confirm him?”

I don’t think that’s even a real question ... McConnell said they’ll be a full Senate vote ... period ... he wouldn’t do that unless they have the votes ... they know it’s do or die time ... they can either do what they were elected to do or they can fall on the Democrat’s sword ... and they know it ...

In other words, POTUS Trump is Atticus Finch and the Democrats are sitting in the Jury Box, just like they were in the Movie, twelve Democrats out to end a Man’s Life.

All out drive for what? For crying out loud he has a two house majority with filibuster free Senate if he can’t get this pick through I don’t want to ever ever hear how’s he better than Reagan ever. Hell even “Zero” managed to get his picks through and that’s with filibuster the and one of which the GOP controlled the Congress.

Media Lesson 101 For the Day:

When Democrats smear people with venom and underminded tactics, it's a "Revelation" and their villians "Should be Heard."

When Republicans counter the smears with the truth, it's "Desperation" and "An Attempt to Deflect."

Here comes the Sh_t Show!! Expect this "hearing" on Thursday to be a complete circus. The previous hearing was bad - - this one will be much worse.
