Judiciary Committee Continues Effort to Accommodate Testimony from Dr. Ford Next Week

WASHINGTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee earlier today offered to move next week’s hearing to receive testimony from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Judge Brett Kavanaugh to Wednesday, in order to accommodate one of several requests made by Ford’s legal team. The Committee also offered to accommodate certain other terms while respecting fairness, due process and the senators’ ability to fulfill their constitutional duties.

Chairman Grassley issued the following statement:

“Despite the fact that the July 30th letter remains hidden, my committee has been investigating the allegations and has heard from multiple witnesses since Sunday. Ms. Katz has discussed Dr. Ford’s allegations in numerous media interviews and said on TV Monday morning that Dr. Ford wants to share her account with the Senate Judiciary Committee. It’s Friday night and nothing’s been agreed to despite our extensive efforts to make testimony possible,” Grassley said. “I’m extending the deadline for response yet again to 10 o’clock this evening. I’m providing a notice of a vote to occur Monday in the event that Dr. Ford’s attorneys don’t respond or Dr. Ford decides not to testify. In the event that we can come to a reasonable resolution as I’ve been seeking all week, then I will postpone the committee vote to accommodate her testimony. We cannot continue to delay.”

The chairman issued a notice of a committee executive business meeting, at which the committee can vote on the nomination of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to be an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. The official notice can be found below.

In addition to the delayed hearing date, the committee has also agreed to certain hearing logistics requests and to assist in coordinating security for the hearing. The Committee did not agree to a number of demands regarding witness numbers and speaking orders, as the committee does not accept witness or subpoena requests from other witnesses as a condition of testimony. As a fundamental matter of fairness and due process, Dr. Ford would provide her testimony containing the allegations and Judge Kavanaugh would be able to respond. The Committee also will determine who will conduct the questioning.

The news on this is confusing. I thought she already had agreed to Wednesday and was driving. Apparently, not. As it stands:

No response within this hour +++ the vote occurs Monday

A response of delay by 10PM means they drag it out till ????

You can bet the committee and pretty much everyone in DC is keenly aware of this as well.

I predict one of Ford’s activist communist lawyers will respond within the hour for Wednesday and Ford will be delayed. At that point the vote MUST be taken but the R’s will be able to say they did everything in their power to give Ford the chance to speak her piece.

In order to be seated by the next SCOTUS session there exist a deadline. If it extends beyond Thursday, he will not be seated. And politically there will not be another chance to appoint anyone they will not lynch.

Now we know the strategy. Delay until it’s too late. Or u til Republicans move forward and then blame our side for silencing her.

They’d rather have her as martyr than hear her lies get blown out of the water.

If the stupid and feckless GOpes need to see which way the wind is swaying check out Yahoo and Huff Post. Both comment sections are not sympathetic to her. Vote now!

SCOTUS session starts Oct 1- Monday. He needs to be voted and sworn in prior to that.

I must be missing something. Many justices are approved after October 1.

What if the vote happened in October? He may not be seated for this session, but wouldn’t he be able to participate in all future sessions?

It doesn’t make sense that he wouldn’t be eligible at all...

Deadline WAS 10AM and now its 10PM. Ridiculous weakness.
Senate Judiciary run by gelding RINO’s. A plaintiff who fails to meet the deadline of the date and time gets their case dismissed and thrown out. End it you schmucks. The Senate is by far the most worthless branch of Govt.

This has to be factually wrong. How is it that Gorsuch was able to sit immediately in the middle of a session.

A Term of the Supreme Court begins, by statute, on the first Monday in October. Usually Court sessions continue until late June or early July.

Time is of the essence, there may be no second chance for this one. They will organize screaming women toxic riots carrying mattresses on their backs. Femme freak shows will ensue, expect them by next week if they drag this out to Wednesday.

I don't think that is correct. That would mean there were only 8 justices for the WHOLE year.

Several websites say that if he is not seated by Oct. 1 and cases are heard, he will not be able to participate and vote on those cases when he is not seated. That means there will be only 8 justices on those cases.

As soon as he is cleared, he can participate and vote in any cases where arguments begin after he is seated. So there can be 8 justices on some early cases and 9 justices on later cases.

Can anyone verify this?
