Poll: Cruz up 9 in Texas Senate race
The Hill ^ | 09/18/18 | Tal Axelrod

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has a nine-point edge over opponent Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) in the Lone Star State’s Senate race, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.

About 54 percent of likely Texas voters support Cruz, compared with 45 percent who support O’Rourke.

While both have net-positive favorability ratings, Cruz’s margin is greater than his opponent’s. About 52 percent of likely voters have a favorable opinion of Cruz, compared to 43 percent who have an unfavorable opinion. Roughly 43 percent of likely voters have a favorable opinion of O’Rourke, whereas 42 percent have an unfavorable opinion.

The upcoming midterm cycle is largely considered to be a referendum on President Trump. Likely voters are split 49-49 on the president’s job approval.

Cruz's 9-point edge in the polls differs from other recent surveys, which have O’Rourke only down four to five points. Republicans have grown increasingly concerned about Cruz holding on.

White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney told Republicans at a closed-door meeting earlier this month that Cruz could lose his seat, citing problems with his likeability, according to The New York Times.

“I don’t think it’s likely, but it’s a possibility. How likable is a candidate? That still counts,” he said.

Should Texas become more competitive, it would open up a Senate map for Democrats that largely has them playing defense. Ten Democratic senators are running for reelection in states Trump won in 2016.

An average of polling for the Texas Senate race tabulated by Real Clear Politics shows Cruz up by four points. The Cook Political Report rates the race as “Lean R.”

Quinnipiac University surveyed 807 likely Texas voters from Sept. 11-17. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 4.1 percent.

Just my opinion, but I put little faith in these polls. The reason why is quite simple. Almost all of my neighbors are staunch Republicans and I can assure anyone who asks that they simply don’t answer the phone unless they recognize the number. All employ caller ID and have entirely tired of robo-calls.

This season, they’ve employed a new technique which we laughed about at church this past Sunday. They send text messages to our mobile phones asking to support Beto ORoarke and of course, those go unresponded to as well; folks just delete them.

My suspicion is that the people who do answer the phones and texts are primarily Democrats who are quite anxious to throw in their two cents. As well, I’d guess, that just like the Rice University polls, most of these polls heavily canvas the heavily Democrat laden Urban pits of despair like Dallas, HOuston and SA.

For these aformentioned reasons, I take these polls with a large dose of salt.

Based on the medias polling data during the last election cycle if they are admitting to Cruz leading by 9% then it is more likely 20% or 30%.

I agree with that.

Beto is Obama's kind of cross-dressing guy-gal. Is this transvestite, transgender or just tranny in drag?

Running under a culturally appropriated name must not be helping Robert Francis O’Rourke. That, and his blatant channeling of the Kennedy brothers hasn’t gone over as he planned.

As for his platform, he just loves everybody and will give everybody free stuff. As a closer for his last debate with Sen. Cruz, he might burst into the old Coke commercial: “I’d like to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony...”

You mean Texans aren’t chomping at the bit to vote for a guy who wants to take away all the guns, raise their taxes, let child molesters into the ladies rooms, kill all the whites and turn the state into Iztapalapa del Norte?

Can’t be.. the MSM claimed Beta was certain to win.

I live in Texas and I have had 2 calls in the last week. They are recorded messages that ask how likely is it that I will vote. I don’t answer the phone and just the one question is asked before the call goes away.

I am for sure voting but no poll unless it is right here on FR will know that.

No, its not. This is Wendy Davis all over again, except she is actually more competent than this Beto idiot.
