Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló argued Saturday that residents of the US territory are treated like "second-class citizens" and said "we need to solve the century-old problem of colonialism in Puerto Rico."
In addition to calling for more resources to help rebuild after Hurricane Maria, the governor told CNN's S.E. Cupp, "there's another thing we need: We need to solve the century-old problem of colonialism in Puerto Rico. The truth of the matter is ... we are treated as second-class citizens." During an interview on "S.E. Cupp Unfiltered," Rosselló, a member of the New Progressive Party, which seeks Puerto Rico statehood, said that all US lawmakers should be able to answer the question, "Do you support the notion that the United States, being the standard-bearer of democracy, should have more than 3 million of its citizens disenfranchised from voting or having representation?"

By all means- cut them off if they want it- OR let them apply for statehood and require them to pay taxes
A state? Please... you are a corrupt mess... and you know it... claiming the US fed is the reason you are a corrupt mess is laughable.
Puerto Ricans are second class citizens.
Accept it, or vote yourselves independent.
Ping.
Independence for PR!
I have an idea. We celebrate September 17th as Constitution Day. Maybe we could begin immediately to celebrate September 17th, 2018, as Puerto Rico INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Cut ‘em loose. There, your century old “problem” is solved. We won’t “interfere” any more. Oh, shut down the military presence there if it even still exists.
Well this guy wants to be a state. Im all for giving them independence but not statehood. We dont need 2 more liberal senators and another corrupt state.
Century-old??? Puerto Rico was colonized 400 years ago. There are no native inhabitants left.
Maybe they should quit voting for Democrats.
Oh, “standard bearer of democracy”? Civics gov, civics.
PR was a mess before the storm and the power grid was never sufficient.
Cut em loose. They can sink or swim on their own dime.
A U.S. state? God no.
A separate nation state? Fine by me. PR would fit in perfectly with all the other corrupt third world hellholes in the West Indies.
Puerto Rico has always been the poor house of the Caribbean. When the US “won” the Spanish American war and took over this over populated, non productive, culturally alien island, it ingested a poison pill.
Yep INDEPENDENCE!
PR would just become another Phillipines if they went independent.
All they want is to have their cake and eat it, too. Take and waste the evil American money, all the while trash talking us. They’d be in a hole without us. They know that and that’s why they hate us.
Independence for Puerto Rico.
Stat
Yes, let’s see them be independent. More power to them.
We can solve that for you in about a second.
We’ll just cut you loose and let you run your own country.
I don’t know one American who would object to that.
