Full title: Inside the FBI’s secret bomb lab: Unprecedented access to elite forensic team and the IEDs that shaped global security

EXCLUSIVE: In a highly classified lab, protected by many layers of security within the sprawling Redstone Arsenal Army post southwest of Huntsville, the FBI's chief explosive scientist is surrounded by powerful reminders of the ever-evolving threat posed by terrorist bomb makers plotting the next 9/11.

The 2001 shoe bomb worn by Al Qaeda terrorist Richard Reid.

The 2010 Times Square car bomb designed to kill and injure dozens in the beating heart of Manhattan.

The 2013 Al Qaeda-influenced pressure-cooker bombs that detonated near the finish line at the Boston Marathon.

"It's, like, the devil's jigsaw puzzle," Kirk Yeager explained to Fox News, during an exclusive tour of the bomb lab facility in Alabama. "As a bomb examiner … your job is to take all those pieces and put together a coherent puzzle."

The post-9/11 threat from these crude but deadly devices, the explosive scientist explained, is "continuous, ongoing and eternal."

With unprecedented access to the FBI lab known as TEDAC – the Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center – Fox News exclusively obtained evidence photos that show the bombs that shaped global security after 9/11, and represent that ever-evolving threat people like Yeager work tirelessly to understand.

"The shoe bomb is one of the first major attempts against aviation in the United States, and was a game changer," Yeager explained. "Because that's why we're taking our shoes off in airports."

FBI forensics has a terrible reputation among professional scientists as being third rate pseudoscience.

FBI AND DOJ VOW TO CONTINUE USING JUNK SCIENCE REJECTED BY WHITE HOUSE REPORT, by Jordan Smith September 23 2016

A President's Counsel of Advisors on Scince and Technology report, titled “Forensic Science in Criminal Courts: Ensuring Scientific Validity of Feature-Comparison Methods,” concludes that a number of common, pattern-matching forensic disciplines – bite-mark analysis, fingerprint and firearm comparison, shoe-tread analysis, and complex DNA mixture analysis – need additional support to be deemed scientifically valid and reliable – a conclusion in line with that reached in the groundbreaking 2009 report on forensics issued by the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council.

But that highly regarded scientific expert Attorney General Loretta Lynch said that the agency remains “confident that, when used properly, forensic science evidence helps juries identify the guilty and clear the innocent, and the department believes that the current legal standards regarding the admissibility of forensic evidence are based on sound science and sound legal reasoning.”

The Russians were screaming at us to look at the Boston Bombers... but the FBI was too busy spying on tea party members.

Because who is more of a threat to a government employee - a terrorist who will create MORE laws and money for government agencies, or someone who wants to cut taxes and REDUCE government waste?

I wonder what a proper soil investigation would produce in that New Mexico complex where the Jihadi’s hung out? Methinks FBI has an IED lab to provide materials to jihadists.....wouldn’t put it past them.

The car with two American Embassy Tel Aviv Diplomatic Security Officers were killed in Gaza by an IED/attack in 2003(?4) was still in a cage at the GSO Warehouse in 2005-2006 - I wonder if “we” wanted to know?

Chris Cherry was key to that unit in the 80’s and 90’s .... worked with him on projects at Sandias Explosives applications lab and other projects while I was USAF EOD . Chris was the SME go to guy that rendered safe Theodore John Kaczynski’s, also known as the Unabomber, remote shack ...... Later I worked with DOE/NNSA and worked closely at times with this FBI unit not only IED’s but IND’s ..... I’m retired now ...... But these guys are good , very good at what they do. The profession is always changing due the innovation of the next threat ..... They have to stay on they’re game 25 and 8 !!

Thanks for the ping Rebelbase !

Stay Safe !
