I’ve always respected Orrin Hatch for the Thomas hearings, and I continued to respect him. People here seem to think he became so awful, I never really noticed it. Arlen Specter is another matter.

The Thomas hearings frankly were a comic spectacle on all sides. Too many hilarious memories to relate now, but it was Washington at the height of self satire. Good thing we won.

One thing I have to say though, 31 years ago the quality of the elected officials seems to be much better than what we have nowadays, even with Teddy Kennedy and Joe Biden etc. included.

Not really, its just that they couldn't be as open back then as they can be now.

“Deserts” Is proofreading dead?

And the problem is?

deserts | diˈzərts |
plural noun
a person's worthiness or entitlement to reward or punishment: the penal system fails to punish offenders in accordance with their deserts.

Thanks. I honestly thought it was desserts because of the pronunciation.

That I could even write that with a straight face is disconcerting...:(

In the MSM? It sure is. Deader than a flatcat.

In Free Republic?
"Going there" is strongly NOT recommended.

I was alive then but didn’t pay much attention to it at the time. Would yall say Bork got worse treatment than Thomas?

Had Thomas not been the right race, his advantage might not have made the difference. Not that they were both not extremely qualified, Bork just go worse treatment, for sure.
I for one, am sure Anita Hill was either paid off or threatened for her performance.

But a polite private reply for informational/educational purposes couldn't hurt.

I do have to say is that when Teddy Kennedy said the writers and artists would be censored, he was correct. CONSERVATIVE WRITERS AND ARTISTS are censored...

Am I correct? 😋

I hope Trump nominates Britt Grant for RBG's seat. The democrats would go absolutely ape-chit if she gets nominated.

For those of us who are on the Left coast and don't know everything, and are not twits, here is some help:

Britt Grant

RBG = Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a female zombie presently on the Supreme Court.

Here's our intractable problem in California :

Sauron, (aka Governor Moonbeam,) and his huge army of Orcs (aka the California Legislature) keep us busy preventing them from passing an endless string of Bond issues which are immediately looted and spent on raises for Sauron and the ravenous Orcs, with never a word of explanation as to how that is even legal, and not just legalized theft, of moneys intended to restore the 1950s California Water Plan, or Freeways, Highways and major State Roads.
And our great great grandchildren will be obligated to pay back the ever increasing debt.

Anyone doubting this just needs to confirm that ONLY 25% OF THE RECENT MONUMENTAL FUEL TAXES AND VEHICLE FEE INCREASES IS BEING SPENT ON OTHER UNKNOWN PRIORITIES OF OUR ELECTED AND APPOINTED CRIMINALS.
BUT THE GOVERNOR, THE LEGISLATURE AND ALL STATE EMPLOYEES SILENTLY KEEP GETTING ANNUAL RAISES.

So I hope you will understand why we can't keep track of who Britt Grant is, or why we SGAS about who RBG IS!

We the citizens of California, are pissed off and in much deeper doo doo than the rest of the country, hard as that is to believe.

Speaking from experience, all you can expect is arrogant indignance from hypersensitive Freeper snowflakes, and a waste of your time.

Definitely, yes: which is why “borked” is a verb.

Prior to that, a president was presumed to deserve the recognition of his appointment powers.

I think the confirmation rate wa above 9%.

Correction: 9% = 95%.
