A Republican whos among President Donald Trumps most vocal critics in the Senate says he regularly considers leaving his party and becoming an independent.
Thats what Nebraskas Ben Sasse writes on Twitter in response to a commenter who said she believed changing her Democratic affiliation to no-party would be part of the solution.
She then asked the first-term senator whether he might follow suit.
His response: yep regularly consider it (except the from Dem part)

DO IT, Ben, just DO it! Let’s see how far that will get you in Nebraska ... it’s not like you’re in Vermont or something ...
Quit mulling and do the right thing.
Mr. Civics, the media whore. Reminds me of that other douche Kasich.
Reminds me of someone else.
no problem ben. join us independents. but one thing, get over your personal dislike of the President. we independent conservatives are backing Trump to the hilt.
Him too.
What a miserable pos.
Truth be known, I’ve all but given up on the GOPe party. Donald Trump is the first person running as a Republican that I’ve enthusiastically voted for in the last two decades (as opposed for “lesser evils”).
Of course I recognize that sasse is running towards the same thing I’m walking away from...
Ben admits to being a NeverTrump and a NeverRepublican?
It’s sad when an elected representative in Party R pines to join Party D. Oh, they might say they’re an “independent” but watch their feet to see which party they caucus with. And if it’s with R, why the fuss? And if it’s with D, they’re not fooling anyone.
Their best shot at a party member more to their liking getting into the White House again is with Pence. After that, they can go back to fighting among themselves for the “Most Congenial Loser” awards. That is, when they aren’t using getting elected as an R as the springboard for jumping into the D pool.
Doing so would mean he’d be finished in the Senate. He wouldn’t win reelection in Nebraska as an independent. Hell, I would be entirely shocked if he’s ran out by the GOP primary electorate the way Flake and Corker were.
Sounds like he doesn’t want to be in the Senate after 2020. WH is beyond reach. So what is there? He needs the limelight.
And I honestly didn't know that was a thing until just now when I googled BenSasse.
“Sasse says he regularly mulls leaving GOP...”
Believe me, we’re with you on that Sasse, you tool. You and your compatriots are a complete embarrassment. Please just do what the Chief Executive tells you!!!
This *ss is yet another example of why there needs to a recall provision amendment in the US Constitution.
He’s another of the ‘entitled class’ of Yale-Harvard aholes who think the world is made for them.
He needs to be primaried in 2020 or pushed out before then.
Same. Got a call from Karl Rove asking for donations. Had no idea he was still alive, I laughed at the request and blocked number.
Theses like a reasoned action. I really don’t have a beef with Senator Sasse, might not agree with him on some things, but I’d put him ahead of most of his peers on the senate.
Yeah, but will he leave his boyfriend?
Murdering infants appeals to him, eh?
