Headquarter the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in Utah? Absolutely. Just don’t start thinking it will be the Utah Bureau of Land Management.
With the encouragement of Rep. Rob Bishop and Gov. Gary Herbert, Acting Assistant Secretary of Interior Susan Combs came to town this week to discuss a possible move to either Salt Lake City or Ogden. Her boss, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, has pushed the idea of moving more of Interior’s work to the western United States where most federal lands are.

There is certainly a lot of desert land out there that they could bury it in.

Sell off all that federal land and apply the funds to the principal of the national debt. Freeze all federal spending and end baseline budgeting. What a mess we are in.

This is a good start towards draining the DC swamp. If the BLM moves to UTAH there will be many Leftist DC Swamp Critters who will not move.

This is an easy way to get rid of Leftist DC Swamp Critters and the process needs to be applied to every Federal agency and department that have become entrenched in their DC Swamp.

I’m certain the state of Utah can manage it without them.

My guess is that Utah wants to manage the controversial area of Bears Ears.

It is a good idea to move much of the federal government away from D.C. This is especially true for agencies like BLM who manage lands primarily on the west coast. It stands to reason that many BLM employees have little understanding what it is like to live in an area where the majority of lands are managed by their own agency.

On top of that, D.C. is a very expensive place to live and work and it is overrun with lobbyist and special interests. Moving a bureau out of DC that has no pressing need to be within the beltway is a smart move for the taxpayers (will save a lot of money) and will have additional dividends down the road.

The decentralization of government geographically is a good idea. D.C. has become a gigantic bubble and the more of the govt we can move out of there the better in my book.

I support this.

Living the Southwest myself I agree. The main problem with the BLM is that they are so disconnected and insulated from the reality of their decisions and policies. They are way too far away from their own local field offices. So If you have a formal complaint to file over the head of a local field office manager you have to physically go to DC. This is a huge problem and challenge for us on this end where we are most affected by their policies.

Their local field offices here tend to go rogue and make up their own policies and laws because they are not being watched closer by their superiors.

Congress could do 90 percent or more of its job — hearings, meetings, votes, etc. — online, saving billions of dollars and allowing representatives to stay close to the people they are supposed to be representing.

It’s that last part that I’m sure scares them to death. It’s so much better to run off to Washington and hang out with the lobbyists.

There is NO reason anymore for members of Congress to travel to Washington like it’s 1789 or something.

There is no surer way to drain the swamp than to move it’s functions away from DC. The swamp critters are tied to DC and many of them will not leave it, thus freeing many government jobs for real Americans.

“There is NO reason anymore for members of Congress to travel to Washington like it’s 1789 or something.”

I disagree. John Mccain would still be voting today if they didn’t have to be physically present.
