California State Assembly Passes Nation’s Toughest Net Neutrality Law
Variety ^ | Aug. 30, 2018 | Ted Johnson

A net neutrality bill that would prohibit internet providers from a host of discriminatory practices cleared the California Assembly on Thursday, setting up a potential showdown with the Trump administration over the rules of the road for the internet.

The legislation, which passed in a 59-18 vote, will now go to the Senate, where a vote is expected next week. It would then go to Governor Jerry Brown.

California is also the largest state to pass net neutrality legislation in response to the Republican-led FCC’s move late last year to dismantle many of the existing rules.

Democrats have seized on that action and have sought to reverse the FCC’s decision in Congress, but states have also responded with their own measures. That will likely key them up for a legal showdown, as the FCC’s repeal of the rules also includes a provision pre-empting state efforts to impose their own rules.

The interstate commerce clause should come into play.

California-—the basket case of liberalism. Please God, do something as the Philistines are once again at the gate ready to destroy everything.

Sanctuary cities hold up fine. Where do you get this constitution stuff? We don’t have one.

Could this be a means to sue Facebook, Twitter, et.al. for discrimination against conservativism?

They clearly don’t understand net neutrality, funny if this blows up in their collectivist faces.

I think what will happen is that the big users such as Silicon Valley, the movie industry and industrial design firms will set up their own private ISP and let everyone else, like the Cal government and schools fight over bandwidth.

The initial objective is to expand regulatory authority into another place of leverage.

That done, the real damage will come later.

“The West Coast has gone full commie.”

But the “commie” generally goes only 100 miles inland.

Does California have it’s own separate internet?

But you’d be suing in CA state courts. If you think the 9th Circus is delusional, I’m betting CA State courts are a breeding ground for a new level of insane extremism.

I'll find out soon enough. I make sure my VPN runs through a neighboring state, either Oregon or Nevada. Tried running through an offshore server, but the delay was noticeable.

I’m not convinced this a bad thing. I recently got an email from my ISP advising me the rules of use changed. It reads like don’t even need a good reason to drop me and with limited ISP’s in my area; this is not a good thing.

I think there’s a lot more I don’t understand about this net neutrality than I do understand.
