First thing that entered my mind too...total bs. But look above, even Freepers believe whatever is printed by even a 2nd tier media outlet.

Turn the situation around; how many Freepers would tolerate having to attend Atheist lectures as a condition of work?

Or Islamic studies....

The employer is toast, yes.

But the article doesn’t exactly line up either - this “poor victim” supposedly “endured” for 6 months before finally telling his employer he couldn’t come to the study any longer... Yet his employment dates, best case, only equal a total of 5 months... Either that or I’m too tired to do simple math...

Never mind that the guy got his full hourly pay for sitting and basically (on his part) doing nothing. It’s not like he went uncompensated for that time.

“I doubt the courts are going to give the employee this lottery ticket”

This is in Oregon. The state goes after Christians

That is - assuming this guy’s side of the story is true. As others have posted - there is likely a WHOLE LOT more to the story...

Unfortunately, the Pacific Northwest is not particularly friendly with Christianity in general.

He was required to attend, with pay, not required to participate. If it was in his hire on contract, then that was part of the job.

I agree. Turn the situation around; how many Freepers would tolerate having to attend Atheist lectures as a condition of work?

Attending diversity lectures taught by Liberal Evangelists is a condition of employment in many corporations.

You not only have to attend but you also have to sign on to their religion.

Chances are that anyone doing it like this isn’t teaching any path to salvation.

Seems like it should be OK if one makes it an up-front requirement and does it on the clock...we know that the courts will step on common sense but I’m all for the owner on this one...

The man is a painter and most of the ones I’ve been around are not the most stable people.

Is is the fumes? Or from scraping off the old lead flakes?

Relatively easy job to get into.

Paintbrush, check. I’m a painter.

Please give me some advance money to buy some paint and “supplies”. BTW it’s important I have this money by the weekend.

I’ll see you next week.

BTW don’t worry if I don’t get back to you my phone has been kinda broken lately.

Make that check out to “CASH” if you don’t mind ...

"Despite his good intentions"

I wouldn’t someone describe trying to shove their religion down their employee’s throat as “good”.

Scroll up to post 17. Sounds like he was offering a special situation of rehabiitative learning. The source material shows the mindset that influenced our Founding and overriding laws, and our general social values, for people who were otherwise unemployable. I highly doubt he only "revealed" the program after the guy started working, although it's remotely possible that he initiated it after the guy started working. So the rest depends on whether he was actually coerced to convert or just allowed to show up and listen and/or question. Also, probably depends on how many people are employed by this guy — a crew of five, or many crews of dozens or hundreds of employees?

IF the story is true, then the employer hasn’t a leg to stand on. If attending the Bible study was a condition of the written employment contract, it may not be an open and shut case. I don’t know; if that is the case, though the employee broke the contract, it still probably wouldn’t fly.

If Messiah has come, so has the harvest....the time for planting has finished....

If one is a bridesmaid without oil...ask of the bride for the oil to fill your lamps...do not be caught outside when the groom comes....!
