Democrats’ dilemma, post-Pelosi: A younger leader or a black one?
Post and Courier ^ | 8/18/18 | EUGENE SCOTT

**SNIP**

Since Hillary Clinton’s loss in the 2016 presidential election, much conversation has taken place about black Americans’ loyalty to the Democratic Party.

Since the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the party has regularly received the overwhelming majority of black votes. But some have questioned how committed the Democratic Party is to its most loyal constituency.

While Clinton went on to win nearly 90 percent of black votes, questions about her commitment to the black community — based on some of her past comments about black youth — were a consistent thorn in her side during her campaign.

...or a black one...

Heavens to Murgatroyd! Is there a pic of the black Pelosi?

Eugene Scott, previously a breaking news reporter at CNN Politics, writes about identity politics for The Washington Post.

Ew, an expert. I'll wait for Eugene's next piece on how it's decimating the RATS.

Surprised they’re not pondering gay vs. tranny.

The Democrat party is fast becoming the parts of POCs and misfits. The co-Chairs of the DNC are already POCs. The leader of the Democrats in the House is more visible. Once it goes POC, it will be finished.

Democrats need a leader any color, age, or class. Not a symbolic faux leader chosen for vote impact.

The answer will depend on several factors; how the midterms turn out (meaning if there’s a rout one way or the other, which Dems are left in office, who has seniority, who can raise the most money...the list of variables is long. Joe Crowley was the picked successor to Pelosi. But if he loses out to Ocasio-Cortez (he’s still on the ballot) it won’t be him. If there is a Dem rout then they may reevaluate their partisanship and “triangulate” to the center. If they retake the House and it’s perceived that identity politics is still working, it will be a trans, black, Hispanic.

Frankly, I think there will be a Dem rout and it will turn out to be a white male seen as a “moderate.” (For whatever a moderate means in the Democratic party.)

I was thinking the article was written by Eugene Robinson. After reading it Scott is cut from the same cloth. Same ol sniveling lefty whining about “identity politics”. United is not in their vocabulary.

You’re right. The Dims are going to pull the same game as 2006. Pretending to be conservative or “ moderate”.

Good reasoning......to succeed with voters, the Dems need "a white male seen as a 'moderate.' ”
One who's done a bang-up job connecting with voters. And here he is.

First in a series. Andrew Cuomo's just getting started to prepare for his presidential bid.
He's issuing an informative series on why he thinks America was never that great.

First, I hope the dems continue to elect leaders who are blatantly bat-sh!t crazy.

The truth behind the article is that the their self-administered divisiveness has created a problem; they can't possibly elect a leader to pacify all of the different groups they've encouraged to become angry victims.

Two assumptions in this article struck me. These seem to be "truths" in the progressive perspective:

"Black lawmakers and candidates, furious about President Trump’s caustic racial politics and attacks on African-Americans, say they are determined to claim a greater role in steering their party."

"Some black Americans — unconvinced that Clinton and her vice-presidential pick, Sen. Tim Kaine, D.-Virginia, would be the best stewards to carry on Barack Obama’s vision of a more inclusive America — stayed home on Election Day, despite pleas from the president and other prominent black Americans."

I'm not aware of any Trump attacks on African-Americans, or indications of his "caustic racial politics."

Nor am I aware of anything Obama did to create a "more inclusive America."

Did I miss these things? Maybe I'm using the wrong news sources. But it's obvious that this author takes them for granted.

I think it likely that there will be civil war within the Dem party, with POCs versus white women versus trannies of all types.

I see them losing what they have left of the white working class.

I don’t think the question of who or what will lead that party is inclusive enough.

Generation X will require a leader who is of “Gender X”.

"I see them losing what they have left of the white working class."

I hope you're right! Still, many of the white working class don't think for themselves (didn't Rush call them low-info voters, or something like that?).

Leader?

I have argued that a charismatic person will emerge. The charisma will carry the day. At present, that charismatic person is Donald Trump. I had no clue the one to emerge would be him

Barack Obama was a young black charasmatic orator who carried the day. Unfortunately for the Democrats and America, he was shallow.Behind the charisma and blackness, there was no there there.

There is no such person currently in the cast of leftist actors to do it again. Old white women that lack chrisma are a detriment and provide inadequate help.

The disarray will increase as infighting over petty agendas prevails
