(CNN) - The Republican National Committee on Thursday took a heavy swipe at Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez -- the 28-year-old Latina who unseated a long-serving Democratic congressman in New York's June primary -- comparing her to Venezuelan strongman Nicolás Maduro.
A Bronx native with Puerto Rican roots, Ocasio-Cortez is a democratic socialist and -- as of less than two months ago -- a leading figure on the progressive left, which has notched a handful of high-profile Democratic primary wins in 2018 while advocating for programs like "Medicare-for-all" and tuition-free college.
In their email, the RNC calls Ocasio-Cortez the "Mini-Maduro Foreboding The Future Of Democrats" and says she is "leading The Democrat Party To The Left With Nothing More Than An Unsubstantiated, Factually Incorrect Socialist Wish List."

The Left thinks that adding “democratic” in front of “socialist” somehow makes socialism different from that imposed on Venezuela, Cuba, or North Korea.
Psst, Leftist knotheads: Socialism is socialism, and it inevitably leads to tyranny, scarcity, and misery...which, come to think, is exactly what you want.
I think the RNC should be quiet and let her win. She is a stupid gift that keeps giving.
Never mind "democratic". You can even add "national" in front of "socialist". Onkel Adolf did.

In thinking Crowley may win. She only got the votes of something like 7.5% of the democrats voters in her district when she won the primary.

There are, apparently, two other names on the ballot. A Republican, who has not campaigned, set up a donation site, or gotten much press, and Joe Crowley, the guy she beat in the primary. She will have name recognition which should, by itself, net her forty percent of the votes. But I’m guessing many people will tick a different name just so she won’t get elected. Apparently, Crowley is not actively campaigning, which is pretty high minded for a Democrat, but he refused to remove his name from the ballot.
The reason Joe didn’t bother campaigning in the primary was his polling had him 36 points up on her. But she got out the vote and he didn’t.
I am of two minds on this. She is dangerous and stupid, and if elected will continue to gaff. But at the same time, she may develop a rabid following, and, like the eye of the hurricane, guide it to great destruction. She’s like a dose of poison. It can lead to immunity, or death.

I had the same thoughts.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is not a dictator. I’ve never seen anyone suggest that she is. She’s a naive liberal who is just entering politics and making a lot of mistakes as she does. I actually have some sympathy for her. She has been grabbed by the press on the Left and turned into the poster girl for the Progressive Left. And the Right has played her up just as much to turn her into a laughingstock for her ignorance and mistakes. I don’t like it. I think everyone should dial down the volume on her. Let her run, turn her back into the local candidate that she is. Let her make her mistakes as a novice candidate and don’t pounce on her for every mistake.
Having said that, if the Liberal press plays up Socialism in their stories on her, it is very appropriate to tie her policies to what his happening in Venezuela. Her policies cause what is happening in Venezuela. But let’s keep the focus on her policies, not her personally.
We don't need another loudmouth, unprincipled, populist, emotional, uninformed, inexperienced loser in American politics or in the WH.
However, as long as she's photogenic... she has a good chance with Liberal voters. THEIR bonehead lack of common sense (or even basic discernment) assures the DNC that there will ALWAYS be a chance for them to regain the WH.
It doesn't take much to convince greedy, uneducated, lazy people that they are being cheated, exploited, oppressed and underserved. When some photogenic bimbo comes along... it's pure magic for the DNC!!

Hmmm. Not sure I would do that from the RNC. Unless maybe they hope to turn ALL Dems into Maduro. That might work.
