Drango: Too late...she did a LOT of work to fake her background. This was no accident.

seawolf101: She is just another politician that is so used to lying that she does not know what is the truth. Just like other politicians to her the truth is what she says.

This is it in a nutshell.

She was comfortable enough with lying and deception to try and pull this off publicly, and then she acts like it won't happen again and she should still get a chance.

That speaks volumes about her lack of character.

I put a lot of time and money into vetting people who come work for me, because if they lie to me and my staff about something as simple as a college degree like this woman did, I have no doubt they will lie about bigger things. I don't need those bigger things to cause problems down the road.

I'd love to know what it is with the GOP running so many crappy candidates these past few cycles.

I dunno. I think hubris may have something to do with it, along with an underestimation of things political, and how deep the dirt-diggers will go. "Republican candidates/politicians" are not the only persons she talks to.

For all we know, it could have been the product of opposition research done by her opponent, who has declined to comment on this affair.

Interesting that this relatively minor event has become nation headlines, too. It has garnered an inordinate amount of attention.

Dems, on the other hand, have no such worries, because their fellow travelers, be they politicians, supporters, "news" reporters, et al can be pretty much guaranteed to give them a free pass.

I know a few people that would be truly awesome public officials at any level.

From what I have seen politics in this country nowadays is only attracting people lacking in character. Given the media's relentless personal and family attacks most normal people do not want to go through all of the grief. Especially when it impacts their family in such a negative way. Of course people of low moral character don't care what their family has to go through.

There was no going deep on this one - as an employer, it's one of the easiest things for me to verify when I hire somebody.

There was no opposition research needed. You plug her name into one of the national registries for college grads, or you contact the school (and many schools have their own systems where you can check if somebody graduated). 5-10 minutes work.

>>Interesting that this relatively minor event has become nation headlines, too.

When somebody pulls something as stupid as this while running for office, and then they double down and claim they weren't trying to deceive anybody, it's going to catch some national attention.

Plus it's Florida. That whole state is a bag of crazy at times.

>>Dems, on the other hand, have no such worries,

There's nothing stopping you from fact-checking any Dem candidates, and I have no doubt if you catch one being as much of a dumbass as this woman, that Fox News wouldn't run it as a major story for a few days.

I know plenty as well, and the fact that they are good people means many aren't interested in getting into the mud.

I agree that many are lacking in character at all levels from your county to your national figures, but I don't blame the media.

In fact, the media used to be much more brutal with politicians in the 19th Century.

The fact is, many politicians see elected office (or being appointed) as an easy way to wealth and power.

I agree. Just look at the Clinton Crime Family as an example.

Maybe. Maybe not. I can put you in contact with the local GOP head in central Florida, Joe Gruters, if you can help vet some of these other candidates. Sounds like the RPOF could use the assist, and you sound like an old hand at this, so...

Or again, you could just run as a democrat, and then you can have multiple women accusing you of battery, and still win the election, investigation and background checks be damned. Keith Ellison being just the latest example.

A level playing field sure would be nice. If wishes were horses...

Do they bother vetting candidates? Is there some kind of system that is going to keep out people like her?

Honestly, from where I'm sitting, some idiot with a fake diploma is the least of our worries - we have inbreds with Nazi views slipping into Republican primaries.
